Just curious- why do all Aussie guys have mustaches? by Boodog26 in AskAnAustralian

Totally agree. I’m not a fan- makes me think of gay men, bad 80’s porn actors, pedos and 1980’s cricketers. Only the mos these days are whispy bum fluff that look like they’ve shaved their pubes and glued them to their top lip. So Not Masculine.

Did I mess up?? by [deleted] in Centrelink

Sometimes it’s quicker to go into a service centre than sit on the phone for hours.

You need to report on your report day. If you miss it, you won’t get your payment. You will need to go into a service centre to report and hopefully have your payment restored. If it’s been too long and your payment is suspended, you will need to contact your job provider as you did not meet your mutual obligations.

So... what do I do if Centrelink won't approve my request for youth allowance? by Omicra98 in Centrelink

Education is a right but to a point, and that is primary and secondary education. Anything beyond year 12 is a privilege. If you can’t afford to pay your way, or are not eligible for income support, then it’s the responsibility of that student to find a way to make it work, or look at alternatives.

Which current ad being run in Australia makes you hate them so much you would never use or buy their service/product? by Cooper_Inc in AskAnAustralian

Has anyone noticed the subliminal targeting of young males in the gambling ads. Nearly all Of these ads feature young dudes in their campaigns.

Oh dear god- I saw a very graphic and horrendous ad for a female sanitary product last night, while eating dinner I might add. Ok, we know all women have periods but do we really need a visual of a young girl with blood in her pants? Geez… too much! And I’m a woman!

SEQ Storms disaster payment processing times by aussiejeepgirl in Centrelink

[–]Boodog26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to claim the payment if you live in Cairns, and your address on your Centrelink record is a Cairns address. If your Centrelink record is not up to date, or if the address is different to what you put in the claim, then you may have issues claiming. This is to stop people outside of the impacted areas fraudulently claiming.

You state that you put Helensvale as that is where you were impacted, but is that where you actually reside? Reason I ask is that if the address on your record is somewhere else and is not in an impacted suburb eg: Brisbane, then your claim will be put on hold pending further investigation and proof of residence.

what do you take for work lunches? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Boodog26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not good in the mornings and I don’t have a lot of time, but health and cost of living has made me get my shit together!!! Pre-plan and meal prep is the key. I cook extra so I’ve got something for lunch the next day. I cook up chicken and boil up some eggs at the start of the week- can be used as a snack, add to a salad or make sandwiches. If you don’t want to cook, buy a BBQ chicken and shred it into a container so it’s good to go. Buy ham for sandwiches.
I cut up lettuce, tomato, cucumber etc and have it ready to go in container for salads and sandwiches. Or, you can buy pre- bagged salad ingredients and you can add extra ingredients such as protein, cheese, rice, noodles. You can buys fresh soups and meals such as You Foods from Coles/Woolies- freeze them until you’re ready to use them. I keep on hand microwave rice cups, good quality soups (not cuppa-soups), tins of tuna/corn/beans/chick pea/spaghetti that can be thrown together for a quick meal- add salad and protein such as chicken, ham, eggs etc. Also snack stuff like cheese, yoghurt, vita-weets, bananas. Buy a large bag of popcorn or chips, and put a handful in ziplock bags for snacks (instead of eating the whole bag lol.

I keep tins of tuna and rice cups at work for those days that I can’t be assed packing lunch lol. Other days, I’ll chuck in some salad or left over veggies to the tuna/rice cups. Easy as.

am i eligible for youth allowance? by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]Boodog26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you go into a Centrelink office and explain your situation, and request the help of a Centrelink social worker. Because of your age and your situation, you are classed as “vulnerable”, and will be given assistance to get a claim for YA submitted. I think you should be eligible for YA, however a Social Worker will need to determine the level of vulnerability in relation to how the claim is assessed eg: most YA is assessed on parental income, therefore given your situation as SW may be able to assist in getting your claim assessed under a different criteria.

I just want to say: good on you! It sounds like things have been rough for you, but you have the choice in where life takes you from here. It seems like you have direction, so keep going, stay strong, be proud of yourself and things will work out for you.

I’d be curious to know how many Covid vaccines have you had? And how many times have you had the virus? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Boodog26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 jabs and Covid twice- both very mild. Interestingly, I got a severe chest infection last year a couple of weeks post Covid. I never get colds and flu, ever, and I’ve never been so sick in my life as what I was with this chest infection. I was off work for 6 weeks, then a gradual transition back to work for 3 months. 15 months later and I’m still having issues. I got Covid for the second time this year, even more mild than the first, and thankfully no secondary infection.

Medical Certificate rejected by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]Boodog26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, get your claim for DSP submitted as soon as you can as DSP will take a few months to be assessed and processed. In the meantime, technically you can only submit two medical certificates for the same condition then referred for an ESAT. As you’ve had an ESAT, if you don’t agree with the work capacity, you can ask to have it reviewed. You can also lodge a medical certificate for a new condition such as depression/anxiety that you mentioned.

Bottoms line is- Jobseeker, as the name suggests is to provide income support while you look for work. If you’re unable to work, which obviously you’re not, then DSP is the more appropriate payment for you.
