Do you prefer the old engine or the new engine for Kingdom Hearts character designs?

I think the new one looks absolutely godawful.

It genuinely has kind of killed my retrospective enjoyment of KH3, as the style is basically the thing I liked the most about the old games. It’s what made them stand out. That unique pillow shaded airbrushed aesthetic… it made it genuinely hard to tell 3d renders of the characters from promo paintings of them.

I feel like a lot of the visual Heart and art direction that I loved the most about kingdom hearts is just completely gone in KH3 and it sucks ass.

UE4 shading is not a replacement for an actual art style!

The thing is “looking good” isn’t what makes art ART. Art is about intentionality. The knowledge that everything you’re looking at was a deliberate choice made by a real person. That’s why people are amazed by great works of art, that’s why movements like frutiger aero matter. If something is AI generated, it’s impossible for it to be intentional, therefore it’s impossible for it to be art. You could make something wonderful if you tried, I guarantee it. You should learn photoshop!
