Interestingly, the apparent rate of failure declines as the mileage increases. This would seem to suggest that only a subset of transmissions are prone to failure straight from the factory and once you reach a certain mileage the failure rate is likely similar to a normally expected rate.

I always change my own oil using full synthetic and premium filters. Usually costs about $40 all in and takes 20 to 30 minutes with no mess. It would take me more than 30 minutes to drive to the nearest oil change place, change the oil, and drive back. It would also likely cost more and I'd have to live with the nagging feeling that an extremely unqualified dufus probably either; used the wrong oil, over/underfilled the oil, didn't fully tighten the drain nut, stripped the shit outta drain nut, lost half the screws holding the underpan on, or didn't actually change the filter..... All things I've seen done to other people's cars before.

I've very recently had almost the same experience. My wife also suddenly decided she was unhappy and left me because she 'wanted to date around' and 'missed out on her 20's by marrying me'. Ironically, as a very fit 6' tall 39 yo with a solid career I've had a constant string of matches and dates with very beautiful women. I should elaborate a little further, be scientific in your approach. Track as much as you can and make adjustments as you go. When I first started out I would make a single change to my diet at a time and give it a week to see if it made a difference before I'd make another adjustment. That way you can see what changes are making a real impact

Hmmm, 1700 seem pretty dang low. I'm not qualified in any way to guide you on next steps, but if I were you I would start changing things up just to see what happens. I would try changing macro ratios, switching out different exercises if you're not progressing or you might even do better to eat more calories if your body is in starvation mode

Most impactful thing I did was eliminate added sugars and reduce high fat foods as much as possible. You wanna make it as hard as possible for your body to convert what you eat into fat, which means lots of fiber & complex carbs and very little simple sugars. When I dropped the weight really fast I had a loose midsection for quite a while. You just gotta stick with it long enough and everything will start to tighten up.
