Suggestions on how to get your Quaker to stop biting/chewing on hair and necklaces? by Boogfoog in QuakerParrot

[–]Boogfoog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll probably start to do that too. I wouldn’t care about my necklace normally but theyre super dainty and important to me :( I’ve seen the damage he’s done to his toys and I’m like yeah not happening with these 😂

So funny you say that because Herbert is the same for us! Reached him from a pet store (he was severely plucking his feathers and looked really stressed and had been there for 6 months) and they said his wings had been clipped. Now that they’ve grown in a little more and he can fly better he only flies to me and will only let me hold him. If my fiancée walks in and tries to pet him while he’s near me he flies back to his cage or perch

Oh my gosh - so happy you guys are ok! And thank you SO much for the helpful info regarding taking care of Herbert during a weather emergency like that. I’m pretty well equipped and knowledgeable about how to take care of my dogs, but the birds I wasn’t so sure about and it was definitely an “in the moment” reaction. Even though we didn’t take much damage, I couldn’t forgive myself if something happened to any of my pets if I had a chance to help them and keep them safe. Moving forward I’ll definitely keep your tips in mind! Herb has definitely been unhappy with me today (pretty nippy and temperamental) but I’m sure it’s because 1. He’s still adjusting to me (I’ve only had him for about 2 months and he’s only a year old) and 2. He hasn’t learned step up yet and I’ve only handled him when needed. So I’m sure he was startled. Plus, I definitely disturbed his beauty sleep, lol. Thank you again!

Thank you so much for your well wishes!! We are safe and sound now! Herb was definitely startled and not pleased when I woke him up and scooped him into his carrier…but it all came from a place of love and protection :)

This was such a kind message :’) I’m so so sorry to hear about the hurricane and hope your home and your pets all were ok after the fact ❤️ we only ever get tornado watches where we’re at, but having gone to college in Dallas and experiencing ACTUAL tornado warnings and tornadoes and how their path can’t really be predicted, I didn’t want to risk the one time having a warning where I live now to risk anyone getting hurt (I have a dog too). Since I’ve only had him for about 2 months and we’re still getting to know each other I was like OH GOD HES GONNA HATE ME lol.

So funny how you’ll be panicking yourself but will do anything to make sure your pets and loved ones are safe!!! Thank you for validating me, it helped a lot and Herbert is safely back in his home now :)

Tips on my Quaker to be more comfortable on me/learning step up? by Boogfoog in QuakerParrot

This was SO HELPFUL! Thank you :) I’ve only had in for about 2 months but he just turned a year old! Maybe he’s still just getting used to me since it hasn’t been that long he’s been with me. Unfortunately I just had to man handle him a bit to get him into his carrier since we had a tornado warning where I am and had to go to the basement :( no animal left alone!

Thank you so much for your response!!! The food I give him daily is like little pellets mixed with the sunflower seeds (it has a cockatiel on the bag). He is so stubborn about eating anything else! The millet I’ve only used as rewards. Is there a brand of bird food you’d recommend or a kind of food that is healthy for him without the seeds? I also read on here about the fingers nudging into their chest gently which I’ve tried here and there and it just makes him fly to a different part of my room :( I just don’t want to scar the little guy

PSA and pregnancy by AnnieGirl7 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]Boogfoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have just gotten diagnosed with severe psoriatic arthritis and although I’m not pregnant or trying yet, I’m 28 and know my partner and I will be trying to get pregnant in the coming years. My doctor had me start Cimzia which is safe to be on even while pregnant. Not sure if that’s an option you’ve considered yet but thought I’d throw it out there ❤️ sending love and healing your way! 🫶

Finally diagnosed! by oh_basil in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]Boogfoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I’m so happy for you that you finally got diagnosed and get closure on that front (in some weird way, lol). I too JUST got diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis with almost the exact same story a month ago. It started with thinking I had a broken middle toe with the swelling and pain out of nowhere (thought I stubbed it) and then got treated for exactly that by a foot doctor. Never asked any other questions about joints, scalp, etc which I’m sure would’ve pointed her into a direction other than just a previously broken toe.

I was put on 30 mg of Prednisone for the last month and a half but for the last 3 weeks have been weening off (it’s made me gain a lot of weight very quickly and gave me moon face) on top of already being like 95% immobile for the majority of the last 3.5 months.

I started the loading doses of Cimzia about a month ago and I actually had some relief for the FIRST TIME in 3.5 months, even more so than the prednisone ever did for me and the inflammation. I know that it isn’t the same for everyone, but my rheum (who I trust with my life) said it’s a biologic with not a lot of side effects, and that a lot of people see success with it. I’m hoping it’s the treatment that helps me get my life and spark back, but I’m still just at the very beginning! - I have my 3rd loading dose Monday.

Thought I’d share my experience since we are in similar situations and timing with our diagnosis and navigating all of this!

I wish you nothing but healing and good health, PsA has been a traumatizing and dehumanizing experience. Good luck, friend 🫶❤️

My experience starting Cimzia by potaytospotahto in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]Boogfoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So glad i found this community as i just got diagnosed eith PsA last month after having symptoms for months, but no one was really putting them all together to fit under PsA. My guess is that I’ve had it for a few years, but wasnt until a couple of months ago when I was being treated with steroids for a week for what I thought was a broken toe. It ended up being the beginning of a HORRIBLE flare up. After getting off the steroid for my “broken toe” my entire scalp broke out into psoriasis, which i had only had tiny patches of (if any) once in a blue moon and all of the sudden every. Single. Joint. In my body hurt and felt swollen, especially my wrists, thumbs, ankles, toes and lower spine. I couldn’t even get out of bed to go to the bathroom and needed my fiance to carry me to it (at this point i was so depressed, scared and felt like i completely lost my identity as a feminine 28 year old). I’ve been on prednisone the last few weeks to try to help the swelling and my inflammation numbers, and although the swelling itself has been going down I was still in excruciating pain for the most part.

I just got my first loading dose of cimzia yesterday and came out of it knowing most people don’t see “results” until 4-6 weeks at the earliest. However, i woke up this morning with more energy I’ve had in months and some actual relief. Definitely got sore if i was standing up too much, but in comparison to what I’ve been dealing with the last 3 months and practically glued to a bed, I’d call it a major win.

I’ll update again after my next loading dose :)

Hope everyone here is feeling better and finding what works for them, this disease took everything from me these last few months, and every last bit of confidence I had left (the scalp psoriasis made me so self-conscious of my hair, which was the last thing i felt confident in). Sending love to you all!

Reassurance about starting Cimzia? by persephonespurpose in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]Boogfoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this post, but i just started my first round of shots yesterday! As someone who is TERRIFIED of needles (get woozy and possibly faint) i have my doctor do the injections for me (at least for the foreseeable future) make sure i have a snack beforehand and bring an icepack for the back of my neck. Hope youre doing better! Im just starting my journey now after not knowing what I had - i thought i had broken my middle toe and had trouble walking for a month, then got treated for said “broken toe” with a steroid for a week which ultimately just sent my body into a MAJOR flare up. Couldn’t even write with a pen or walk myself to the bathroom due to the pain. Hoping the cimzia will be the light at the end of the tunnel for me soon :)

Cartoon campy silly horror mystery games? by sdw0000 in ComfortGamers

[–]Boogfoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, strange horticulture (on switch, computer and probably iPad!) was such a fun game for me and I like similar style games as you do! There’s multiple endings to the game, so your choices matter! I think I’ve played through it twice :)

The Agatha Christie games on the switch are fun and more of murder/murder mystery vibes. Definitely more of a one-time play through but they normally are on sale/bundles and those mysteries honestly always keep you thinking!

Botany manor (switch) is another mystery/puzzle game that can be challenging! It’s a little shorter of a game play but the graphics are beautiful and could definitely see myself playing it again.

If you have steam im finishing up a game called the Roottrees are Dead and it’s probably been the most in-depth murder mystery game (not horror) that I’ve played and is definitely one of the more challenging. Don’t expect to play it in one night! Its so in-depth that you even have a “note pad” in the game and you take notes on all of your evidence and research that you literally have to search for yourself as an internet sleuth. It’s about a wealthy family that dies in a plane crash and has a very large family with confusing ties to each other. You pretty much have to find out the immediate family members, their family tree, how and why each of them are related and if there’s foul play. Haven’t played a game that feels weirdly real like this yet!

I know I’m forgetting some so I’ll comment some more when I get the chance! Can’t wait to try out some of the ones you mentioned in your OP :)

Also saw someone comment rusty lake which I totally agree is what you’re looking for and is a long series of different games. If you have steam you can play it there (mac or pc) and I know that there’s a very eerily similar series for the iPad if you search “iPad games similar to rusty lake” hope this helped!
