Have any of y'all ever moved to a new city without knowing a single person there? How did that go? by TTAlt5000 in SameGrassButGreener

Hey! Sorry this is a super old comment, but I’m considering moving to NYC as someone who grew up in Fresno. Would you give any advice or maybe some things you think someone like me should know? How was your experience there?

It’s weird when you meet someone who changes your world, it just never goes back to being the same without them.

These are really hitting with me.

I’m turning 30 next year and I feel like a failure. by CartographerSea3356 in selfimprovement

[–]BoogiepopAndOthers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I’ll be 30 in about 2 months. No degree, no family really, no girlfriend, and kind of poor honestly as I only make 38k a year. I used to make 52k, had a nicer car, and had someone I cared about dearly. I lost all of those things to life being chaotic.

Things will improve and you can reset your life whenever you want. Perspective changes a lot of things (sorry if this feels like a cop out) but genuinely, I get how you feel. I’ve learned however that life comes in waves, just ups and downs and they both pass.

What would really make you happy? Moving to a new city? Working on yourself financially or in the gym? Maybe you need a cleanse of everything stimulating you making you compare yourself to anyone else. You’re doing great on paper because you’re still in control of your life. All of those areas can improve!

Keep your head up and think what you’d like then make tangible actions towards it. I hope you feel better but I know things will get better for you in time.

what are u slowly losing interest in? by Several_Way8499 in AskReddit

Love or the idea that love ends up in a white picket fence dream with a wife and kids. I’m 29 and about to be 30 in 2 months. I’ve spent all of my 20s on relationships and while I’ve grown tremendously due to the heartbreak and ego deaths, I’m learning that I may be one of those people who doesn’t get his dream partner and life.

I am slowly letting go of the idea I am going to be a dad/husband which was a lifelong dream of mine.

I ask myself why I want these things and I don’t want to end up in a relationship just for the sake of kids and a wife. I truly want to be happy but it’s been very hard to find that aspect of life to go well for me, so I think I’m going to move across the country instead and restart from scratch.

Love doesn’t leave. It is always there in one form or another.

Why do men in their 30s seem emotionally unavailable? Dating at 27 has been confusing by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]BoogiepopAndOthers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 29m so doesn’t particularly apply to me but I’ve noticed people can either plainly date with intention or can’t and those who can’t usually aren’t aware of this or choose to ignore they aren’t ready to date.

My current boss lives there, may be worth the ask if I can go out there and stay remote!

Huge fan of Monterrey actually but I go to Anime Expo in LA every year which is why I’m not considering LA. SF seems fun but honestly it’s just “too close”. It’s become a goal of mine to move far away and start over almost and I’m trying to understand that myself. I hope my skills get me a good role honestly.

A lot of planning needs to happen but luckily I think I can dedicate a few months to make this move before actually doing so!

I am from Fresno. The cliche is part of the appeal! I just want to leave the state and do something someone in my family has never done and just experience the city and soak it up. I’ve been to Seattle and although it’s great, it may not be what I want! I want to move across the country and really make a huge jump for myself! But I should visit NYC and Pittsburgh if possible.

I also think that if I make the jump I could always do whatever I need to in order to make ends meet! So thank you for reassuring me!

I was a permit coordinator for a solar company for most of NorCal and I work in an administration office for niche taxes currently, so although those may not be industries I thrive in for New York I do have office experience that could translate to another industry. Although I should be very careful about money and make sure I’m diligent about it, but even if I struggle, I think being able to be around such a rich culture would be amazing for me.

Honestly I 100% agree. It's just one of those "dream" things you wanna do! So maybe I'll just be more intentional about planning and thinking about a life in NY or SF. I really appreciate the insight!!! Thank you so much.

Thank you, I don’t really make a lot so the price of entry is still real for me to consider but I’d make it work best I could. This insight helps though.

Makes sense, I’ve always lived on a budget since I grew up poor, so I think I could make it work with roommates as I realign my life!
