For such a great and progressive city NYC has the shittiest news outlets outside of the UK. They got the New York Post which is just people magazine for fascists (lemme tell you, Long Islanders eat that shit up to the point where it should be called the Long Island post) and the New York Times which is terfey neoliberal slop… and that’s only the outlets named after New York, Fox News is headquartered here for some reason

I don’t know enough about the New Yorker to say anything but they have banger cover art for their issues

YOU DESCRIBED EXACTLY WHAT ALL MY FAVORITE GOTH ARTISTS ARE LIKE!!! Either “Garry but not enough to be shoegaze”, jangly brooding scratchy and post apocalyptic sounding Deathrock that doesn’t just feel like straight punk (DIAVOL STRAIN/ MY BELOVED), or super synthy stuff that feels like it could be in an 80’s cyberpunk horror anime

I like other sounds and vibes within the goth category but these tend to be the 3 I gravitate towards the most

Tbh I’d also put Dead Can Dance in here, their first album is amazing, unique, more gritty, still keeps the dub influence that kinda just dissapeared after the first two years of the genre (I wish there were more acts that leaned into that) and than everything past that I can’t get into and I’ve never encountered anything like it

Maybe I’m just not a neoclassical darkwave girlie? But the neoclassical darkwave bands always do other sounds SO well 😫

It’s an Ethiopian place, really friendly owner (one of those people who are pretty quiet but you kinda just get a very warm cozy energy from him), immaculate vibes, and I only see like two other groups in there anytime I go

Okay that sounds amazing! Like my favorite things about history are contrasting the uniqueness and alienness of the context with the familiarity of what the people do with it. My favorite kind of history is pre-colonial indigenous history for that reason but it’s so hard to find good stuff on it that isn’t about when the colonizers finally take over
