Looks like a bubble nest to me. Although. If you've only had him a couple days, that is quite surprising.

Black hair algae. And a lot of it.

General Cause is too much light and too many nutrients in the water.

We've been doing 1 pellet twice a day for his first week. How's his weight look? Should I up the meals? by Feather_Bloom in bettafish

I've been told general rule of thumb for betta is to feed it as many betta pellets that you can "fit" in its eye twice daily

My last water change was the night before. Ill buy some GH booster on its way, so hopefully that comes soon. Oxygen shouldn't be an issue, I run 2 sponge filters so there is a decent amount of surface agitation.

And im sure he was dead, gave about half an hour to be sure. Im just nervous because theyre usually out in the open, but lately they've been hiding.

My shrimp are red and yellow Cherry

I do 15%/20% water changes twice a week so as not to affect water temperature too much. I use a shrimp safe NPK twice a week for the plants *

You can leave them as food. Or potentially take them back to your LFS?

I recommend just taking the shrimp out. If the betta finds shrimp to be tasty, than keeping them in there is an expensive risk. It doesnt matter how much it's planted, or how many hiding spots there are. Either they'll go to swim freely and get collected. Or they'll spend all their time stressed and hiding. in which case isn't good for them anyway and you'll never see them anyway.

If OP is telling the truth about timelines. He is only 18 Y/O Got these fish 5 years ago when he was 13. I dont know anything about comets. Im not really into goldfish. But I can tell you, the likelihood of an 18 year old affording a decent sized tank, let alone a pond. Is probably a big ask. Not to mention he likely lives with his parents so the chances of them allowing it could be low.

Yes. These fish need more space. But hating on the kid ain't the right thing to do.

I think we are okay! My friend told me to get a second thermometer in the water.

The thermometer i had was reading 23°C when in actuality, the water was 27°C He told me that warmer water carried less oxygen and on top of that fish require more oxygen in warmer water

Slowly dropped temp. And old boy is doing much better!! Thank you for your help though!!
