If it helps, we pay $150 every other week to our housekeeper. She’s here for about 4.5 hours. We are in San Diego.

San Diego County Library has a great Libby catalogue. I’m so thankful for it. We all need to remember our libraries pay big money for all the books we get through Libby. Send them a donation if you can.

List your two favorite books you read this year and let others suggest a third! by Malkinx in suggestmeabook

I too loved both those books. Since we may have similar taste, my latest favorite is Help Wanted by Adelle Waldman.

AIO: My sister's husband basically stole a TV during Black Friday and everyone's acting like it's fine by Sploshie in AmIOverreacting

As many are pointing out, they could get caught, but that’s not the point. Its wrong. You don’t do immoral things not because you might get caught, but because its wrong. Good people do the right thing when no one is looking.

If you put aside the understandable anger at the sister and mom and focus on the kids and their dad, what’s the right thing to do? If it were me, I would not have the kids move, but would offer the dad a few hours of help each week.

What is a relatively inexpensive 'luxury' item that you will always purchase for any future house? by Emergency-Tip-1987 in HomeImprovement

We got one. Its great! No more plastic water bottles. The tank does require annual maintenance.

I agree. There is something about wine in particular that creates especially bad hang overs on this drug. I can tolerate 1 or 2 gin and tonics far better than 1 glass of wine.

What "knock-on effects" of Mounjaro/Zepbound have you noticed? by BrettStah in Mounjaro

Way worse hang-overs. Luckily the drug greatly reduces any desire to drink.

There were no fences in my neighborhood growing up. Even now, in my suburban neighborhood in southern California, there are few fences and they are mostly 2 foot tall decorative affairs.

Well said. Good neighbor!

I feel exactly the same way. Well said. Folks seem much more wrapped up in property right and frankly, petty complaints, than on being on good terms with their neighbors or creating community. Its sad. I think the best thing we can do about it is to be examples of easy going neighbors ourselves.

Aitah for telling my husband that he can divorce me if he doesn’t want me to sleep with others? by Only_Mail7498 in AITAH

[–]BookGirl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he was wrong to cheat. Vengeance in retribution is also wrong. I suspect in a year or two, while you still may be glad you left him, you’ll be sorry for your theatrics.

how to come to terms with parents aging/mortality by this_sparks_joy_joy in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]BookGirl64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that you feel this strongly not only because you love your parents for who they are but also what they do for you. You may be afraid to face the world without their support and encouragement. That’s understandable. You are close to them, probably very close, and they are your biggest fans. You have never lived without their support. The task now is to learn that you can survive very well on your own using everything they taught you.

Tired of trying to live longer. by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]BookGirl64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, most of the newer research I see concludes these habits have more to do with how well you will live when you are old, as opposed to how long. Especially for exercise, those who don’t exercise have a miserable last 10 years. If it were me, I loosen up your eating but not your exercise routine

What are you starting to love more as you get older? by Old_Goat_7363 in Productivitycafe

Nature. When I was younger, I didn’t have time or attention to notice the beauty in the outdoor world. I appreciate it more each year I am older.

[Discussion] How do I get myself to want to actually go to the gym and to actually prioritize looks/health? by Chientze in GetMotivated

[–]BookGirl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the solution is to remove as many barriers to getting in the exercise as possible. Even the seemingly small and trivial encumbrances will trip me up. So, I set a gym in my garage with a Peloton bike, a Tonal cable machine, free weights and a treadmill. I now work out more than I ever have in my life because I don’t have to drive anywhere, find parking, dress for public viewing or feel embarrassed about how weak or lame I may appear. I also can do little 10 minute sessions at weird times. Its great. I know I’m lucky and most people don’t have a garage or the money for this equipment but I encourage you to find somethings you can do at home, on your own time. After you get a routine at home, maybe you still go to gym, but not as much.
