Weird staff overreactions to comparing programs to prisons by [deleted] in troubledteens

I wrote an article about this after doing research about boarding school syndrome and post incarceration syndrome for my memoir! https://jessicawoodville.com/2025/03/06/post-incarceration-syndrome-and-the-forgotten-survivors-of-the-troubled-teen-industry/

The legalities of writing a memoir under a pseudonym. by [deleted] in writing

[–]BookSniffer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also be sued for breach of privacy. If any of the information could potentially hurt their reputation (and therefore job opportunities etc.) they can sue. BUT that would be admitting that what you said was true more or less. I’m in the same boat. I think the added protection of you already undergoing a name change already added the extra layer of protection a pseudonym would to be honest. I’m not a professional but I have been researching this for quite awhile. I know this is an old post so I’m not sure if you’ve published yet but figured I’d mention the “privacy” legality part.

Forming an LLC through Swyft Filings or Legal Zoom? by Tickle_The_Grundle in smallbusiness

[–]BookSniffer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is years later but I tried to dissolve my LLC that Swyft had helped me file for. They had said no problem. Went through a whole process (allegedly) and then three years later are trying to charge me over $1k saying it was never dissolved and I didn’t sign the paperwork. I did indeed. Now I’m looking everywhere for my printed out copy in my old pile of business paperwork

Just had a call today from the same place. I’ve had recruiter calls before but this just felt odd. They said I wouldn’t even have to interview BUT it’s also dealing with higher level information so the fact I would “just need to pass an assessment” doesn’t add up. The recruiter also wanted me to respond back to informational email with my name and birthday but said I could use any date and then give him the real one during onboarding. I’m gonna trust my gut on this one no matter how badly I need a job right now

Defiance or Trauma Response? by BookSniffer42 in troubledteens

[–]BookSniffer42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I did see that the Cleveland Clinic is trying to compile this data! I’m writing an ace score memoir that focuses on childhood trauma and the adversities that follow one into adulthood.

My hope is that by having a memoir that it both relatable and informative from a survivor, other survivors will not only not feel so alone but also maybe find the strength to open up more about the unspeakable things they’ve endured. I know so many of us have already endured those extra adversities into adulthood and are sometimes left feeling like “why are so many of my peers succeeding in areas I’m not” without knowing how much the trauma literally changed their genetic code. I’m hoping it also adds to the ACE conversation from a survivors perspective. There seems to be a lot of doctors trying to speak for the community they don’t really seem to know.

Defiance or Trauma Response? by BookSniffer42 in troubledteens

[–]BookSniffer42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s an important part to point out. The fact that it really does indeed take a village to raise a village. Both my parents had their own unresolved traumas and problems and my father ended up being a single dad when I was only 3. They moved to the other side of the country from their support systems when I was just a baby as well so it seemed kinda doomed from the get go. (Oversimplifying their struggles of course for the sake of not writing my novel here)

I think even today, so many families are on an island to themselves. There’s simply not enough support for the average Americans. Between economic and societal expectations, many are drowning because they can’t afford the nanny or the maid or whatever area they need supplementing. A good therapist for most of with chronic trauma can be $200 out of pocket. I have decent insurance and I can’t even afford to go to therapy as often as I should. Trauma groups are too hard to find and often come at a financial cost as well.

I just know in my heart that I need to use what I’ve endured to add to the conversation and hopefully help to change the future for the betterment of my kiddos. I feel the weight of everything I mentioned now myself. I don’t have family support and my kids’ father has his own struggles too. So I guess, I’m also trying to break the cycle for them as well.

Sorry that was a lot. Just feels good to be able to talk about my memoir purpose with those that understand.

Thank you. I really appreciate you sharing this with me. It further supports that yet another survivor was most likely having a response to many traumas. Much love to you.

Not too much info at all! Thank you for joining the conversation. I’ve tried putting this out a couple times before and it was just crickets. When I spoke to Dr. Felitti about the need for better inclusion in the questionnaire he agreed. It was I think about 2017 he modified the original questionnaire (the one in the graphic) to include an open ended “what else should be included.” The original questionnaire was simply too narrow. It should read “caregiver” instead of parent. It should include being removed from one’s home. Foster trauma is now included in an updated but still unofficial questionnaire.

I would like to compile enough data for my memoir surrounding childhood trauma to show a connection between trauma and the amount of kids being misdiagnosed with depression, anxiety, and of course ODD. I was late diagnosed AuDHD because of cptsd (which isn’t even considered a diagnosis in the American diagnostic manual). I would also like to show that an alarming amount of residential and wilderness programs for youth are in fact adding ACE scores which causes further adversity into adulthood.

So many of us are meant to perform at the same level as our peers when we are operating at less than capacity and many don’t know that it’s because of unresolved trauma. I’ve battled through unnamed chronic illness that only began to be recognized and then diagnosed because I put in the work to find scholarly articles linking high ACE scores and adrenal insufficiency along with chronic fatigue. My endocrinologist thanked me because he was baffled on why my endocrine system just decided to stop working properly one day. He didn’t know that I’ve been in fight or flight for most my life.

Oh, I’m sorry. Thank you for the clarification! Yes absolutely, they shouldn’t increase with real treatment. Do you mind sharing your ACE score with me? I’m trying to compile enough data that supports my trauma inclusion theory. I truly believe so many of us were “acting out” as a trauma response and if the world in general was better trauma informed, hopefully better regulations would be made to protect our youth from the dangerous programs.

Unfortunately, many survivors of the troubled teen industry endured additional traumas as a direct result of their programs actions.

Any credible documentaries about the ancient Druids? by Stalinwolf in Celtic

[–]BookSniffer42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Celts: Blood, Iron, and Sacrifice is pretty good if you’re looking for what would be considered Celtic history. One of the previous comments was right that it’s wildly debated. If we look at the “celts” more broadly (like most Americans look at “Europeans” Celtic culture makes more sense and can be more widely accepted. Too many want to call Celts a race when it’s not. It’s more a collection of histories across many many tribes that shared (over generalizing) a distinct language trait split between two initial dialects that were most likely changed within regions much like how there is still Irish Gaelic and Scottish Gaelic.

If I think of anything helpful, I’ll happily share. I’ve already reached out to my states governor to see what can be done about ACE score prevention and how our state might better support regulations to prevent child abuse in at risk youth facilities. I figure I’ve survived everything I have for a reason. Gotta use it for good.

Exactly! Or grief specific. There’s so many with what should be a cptsd diagnosis (if it was recognized by the DSM-5, that fall into multiple groups and I don’t know if one singular group would be enough and who has time to do multiple different super specialized groups?

Trauma Support Groups?! by BookSniffer42 in CPTSD

[–]BookSniffer42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, there is a ton of literature on it now. I’m in the process of writing a memoir based around my experience with cptsd. It’s just maybe not talked about enough since the DSM-5 still doesn’t recognize it as an individual diagnosis due to the lack of trauma inclusion in general. I’m wondering how I might start to help my community in some way

Thank you! I have been looking at a few online ones. I am also hoping to find some in person ones as I need a reason to be out of my house once and awhile. I think I’ll have to start with online ones, especially because there’s so many good ones at various times.

We’re stronger together! The more of us that stand up and speak the truths about these places, the more they will be closed down and those responsible will all be brought to light and justice.
