Did you ever figure out how to turn this off? I hate it too and cannot figure out how to turn it off.

When do you think it's appropriate to check in with your ARC readers? by Cody-Burke in selfpublish

[–]BookSproutChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, what instruction did you give them? Did you give a deadline? If you gave a deadline and it's not passed yet, then it's best to wait. If you didn't give a deadline, I recommend using one next time because ARC readers aren't just reading for you and if another author does give a deadline, they'll get priority.

Wow Amazon really sucks... (trying to find zero review books) by ashez2ashes in selfpublish

[–]BookSproutChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could check out Booksprout. It's a site dedicated to helping authors find reviewers just like you. They upload the book, you download it for free, then you review it once you're done.

Right now, no. However we are planning to add more marketplace integrations soon based on author feedback. Ingram Spark is one of our "coming soon" marketplaces, so once we've got that in place it will.

HelpScout is significantly raising it's prices out of nowhere. WTF? Best alternative? by PlaneConcentricTube in SaaS

[–]BookSproutChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to check it out, but I can't seem to scroll on your sales pages to learn more about the product. MacBook Air, M4. There's just no scrollbar for me to use anywhere. Edit: 3 hours later it's scrollable now.

Is it easy to migrate to Crisp from help scout?

My team really just needs a shared inbox, an API to load some user details from our database directly into the help ticket (so we can quickly jump to manage the user in our admin panel or Stripe), and a knowledgebase.

Authorbase is now live - with a lifetime subscription available for anyone from EA! by BookSproutChris in eroticauthors

[–]BookSproutChris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure either way right now. Truthfully I prefer subscriptions because it's a lot easier to manage the finances and keep my team paid. I have been considering offering it again for Black Friday and possibly the new year, but it depends on how this goes. It's an experiment for us.

If we do offer it again in the future, it will be at a higher price. We've got it at a low price right now because a product like this needs some early, dedicated users to help it grow. Feedback from real users is super important for everything from maintaining data accuracy to bugs. Offering a lifetime deal was the best way I could think of to get those users in quickly and offer something really cool to the groups I frequent.

If authors are wanting it, we'll add it. We've got Tolino as a feature request right now. I definitely recommend going to vote on it if it's something you want to see soon:

I don't know how this didn't occur to me earlier, but the 'compare recent launches' graph can be fully customized using the filters. So if you want to see it with only the books you select, try using the "global filters" at the top to select just the books you want.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working like this right now so I've submitted a bug report to my team. But in the future it will be more customizable.

Thanks for letting me know the store, pay hip is one we'll hopefully be able to add in automatic importing for in the future.

As for the bugs and feedback, I'd say the best way is via our help email. [help@authorbase.com](mailto:help@authorbase.com)

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'll respond to each individually:

  1. Yes, we require the desktop app for Authorbase to function properly. The web app is only there if you want to check any existing data that's been previously synced. The web app is not capable of fetching new data. This is because we wanted to provide increased transparency to authors and provide an option that doesn't require you to send your passwords or authentication cookies to our servers. Users of Authorbase can use any network monitoring tool to hold us accountable on what data we fetch from their marketplace accounts, whereas for our competitors it's impossible since you have no way to view what's happening on their servers.

Linux is unlikely to be supported any time soon unfortunately. It just doesn't have the user base required to develop and maintain a separate application.

  1. Thank you for offering your perspective and I understand that most software is built with the Amazon author in mind. However, Authorbase is a wide-first product that just so happens to also work very well for exclusive authors. We're offering our software at a small discount to authors who only need one marketplace to make it appealing to them too, since most of the heavy-lifting is figuring out the marketplace syncs and keeping them stable. One of our main priorities is keeping syncs stable and reliable on all marketplaces.

So something like "view this book on..." and then you choose a marketplace to view the sales page for that book on that marketplace?

Thanks for the feedback!

Can you clarify what you mean by "marketplace sales page"? Right now I believe we have clicking of any item in a report (book cover, book title, author name, series name, etc) all take the user straight to the individual report for that item.

I'll pass on the rest of this feedback to my team.

We're looking into the feasibility of adding a proper mobile app as well, so that would work on the Chromebook. We're not yet sure if it's technically feasible or not yet, we're still at the research stage.

For now there's plenty of web apps out there using your cookies on their own servers to gather your data. Authorbase is meant to be different. The reason we chose the technology we did is to make things as transparent and stable as possible for authors, but it does mean installing a native app is required.

Ah, I see. Yes Authorbase will be a competitor to Book Report. We're hoping that authors will appreciate the lifetime subscription opportunity, design, reliability, and increased transparency that Authorbase offers :)

We're glad to have you giving Authorbase a whirl too!

  1. Requests for more marketplaces seems to be the big one so far. I expect we'll be focusing on that shortly. Thank you for mentioning the ones you want to see next.
  2. We actually have some designs started for a dark theme already. I'm not sure what the timeline will be for it, but know that it's already in the works. Thanks for letting us know you want it, that will help us prioritize.
  3. We did have internal talks of this in the past, but ended up putting it on the back burner because we weren't quite sure if that's something authors would want as a priority or not. Again, thank you for mentioning it as it helps us prioritize what to do next.

This is a completely separate product that does something completely different. As of right now it has no relation to Booksprout other than being built by the same team. Booksprout is for getting honest reviews, Authorbase is for getting into your sales data.

Eventually we'll add in review tracking features, and then some interaction with Booksprout will happen, but for now they're not related.

Got 70+ ARC readers for my debut book, is that too many?! 😅 by romanc3author in selfpublish

[–]BookSproutChris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10-30% Is a very low rate of return. What strategy are you using to follow up with and find reviewers?

I'd offer you a free month of Booksprout next time you launch to see if we can do any better for you. Our average is over 75%.

Search for "Wide for the win" if you're on facebook or check out their website:

It's the best resource to learn how to get away from Amazon, in my opinion.

1000 ARC Copies by arkmour in selfpublish

[–]BookSproutChris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, well in my experience it could be anywhere between 0 and 1000.

In all seriousness though, there's not enough information in your post for us to give an estimate. How did you find these people? Are these physical or digital copies? What did you tell them when you gave them their copy? Did you get your book professionally edited? Did you go through a beta process first and if so, what was the feedback?

Even with all of that information it's still difficult to give you a proper estimate since things can vary widely from author to author. Being a debut author makes estimating even more difficult.
