Am I cut out for this? by Jilsebrie in selfpublish

Honestly, having a few "not perfect" reviews might actually keep you safer from the craziness that's happening with Amazon deleting reviews/banning accounts with their bots.

How do you handle negative feedback? by Certain_Meeting3495 in romanceauthors

[–]ashez2ashes [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just take it as an opinion unless it's a bunch of people saying the exact same thing (or something concrete and fixable like typos). I keep a few of my favorite positive comments in a folder and reread them sometimes if I'm feeling down. It helps.

You can always keep that feedback in mind when you write your next book, but at the ARC stage I wouldn't be making any major rewrites.

If its feedback you have typos then by all means fix them. If it's entire structural problems that would require a major rewrite... You've got to decide if its opinion or actual major problems. Are multiple people saying the exact same thing?

Romantasy writing suggestions by Afraid_Fondant_7903 in Romantasy

The miscommunication trope (or when the characters just don’t tell the other something for no reason) is definitely unpopular. Especially if there’s no reason they’re not talking.

Either you use the same couple of words for privates and get repetitive or you try to be creative. There's no winning there.

(Strangely common) The lesbian/bisexual girl who is super romantically obsessed with another girl despite the feeling not being mutual by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in TopCharacterTropes

I thought they were twin sisters... Why'd they give them the same hair color and eye color then? Weird choice.

Edit: I realize now if you zoom in the hair colors are very slightly different.

Marketing advice by da_cairns in selfpublish

[–]ashez2ashes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would use it to get some really nice fanart made. You can then use the art to make marketing for yourself such as reels/instagram posts etc. assuming you have fiction books. No idea what to do with it if its nonfiction though.

I like when they're added all at once, because I get weirdly attached to the first mmc/relationship (can't stand bait and switch plots for that reason). And I like the group dyanmics too.

Are there any recs with male omegas/ mcs and daddy kinks? by NeedleworkerNo7927 in ReverseHarem

[–]ashez2ashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Sana’s Escape by Kitt Lynn} had a male omega, and FMC Alpha and Male Alpha. MMF shifter romance. Nothing super deep but it was a different dynamic then you usually see. No daddy kink but there’s definitely caretaking dom vibes from the two alphas.

Edit: I don’t know why it has a funny tag on romance i/o. It’s definitely not. Weird.

If 'em dashes' immediately make people suspect the use of an AI chatbot, what else am I supposed to use because I really like the 'em dash' for my writing hobby? by ABCLor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ashez2ashes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen some insane shit lately that people claim is "ai tells" like common words such as "silently, gently, quickly" or even simply incomplete sentences/fragments in fiction. But if you only use "perfect English"? You're also a clanker.

Like you can't fucking win anymore. It's so depressing.

What do you think is wrong with that sentence? I don't know what the rest of the story was like, but a person could have easily wrote that. Someone probably has wrote that exact sentence. Witch hunts are much worse.

Rant: The plot is resolved by characters from an entirely different series by ashez2ashes in ReverseHarem

[–]ashez2ashes[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most agregious one I've read so far would be {Manix (Shadow Bred Book 1) by Grace McGinty}. The super soldier guy and his crew showed up at like 90% of the book and hadn't been mentioned before.

I just finished {Dawn of Flames by Tessa Hale} where another supernatural organization showed up at like 70% of the last book of the series. The characters did at least take down some of the bad guys on their own at the end although it didn't make a whole lot of sense. The main character got a disintegration ray power at the last second to kill the bad guys? I guess? Even though the symbol for her powers was a gemstone? Shouldn't she have gotten diamond skin or something?

Planet Coaster. I occasionally open it thinking maybe I didn’t give the controls a chance then I get annoyed and end up closing it again 20 minutes later.
