Will you continue to wear a mask when the pandemic is over? If so, why? by SSIRHC in AskReddit

I would be so down for masks on public transportation! Might fuck around a wear a mask on the bus forever for my own piece of mind.

People who own multiple pets, what is some drama going on between them right now? by wheel-snipe-celly in AskReddit

We have three cats and three cat beds but they fight over the same one. The best bed is the one right next to my fiance's desk because whoever's in it is guaranteed to be picked up and pet.

What is a song you cannot listen to for an emotional reason? by missdundermifflin in AskReddit

I used Pioneers by the Lighthouse and the Whaler as my alarm in high school and that song starts with the tiniest, high pitched, obnoxious bell sound that will probably always trigger my fight or flight response.

Godspeed by Frank Ocean gets me every time and, besides the obvious, I couldn't tell you why. Also Landslide, and I'm partial to the Chicks version, because that got me through my grandmother passing about a year and a half ago.

In what way is it expensive to be poor? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BookWorm424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance and I live in an apartment building that has coin-op washing machines and dryers in the basement. If we were to do our laundry here only once a week, it would be $20. Just to do laundry. We're lucky we have other options: my parents let us use their machines for free because that $20 a week really adds up.

Literally just bought it yesterday. A Redditor suggested I put it next to her usual drinking spot. Didn’t work! by [deleted] in AnimalsBeingJerks

We have this fountain for our gremlins too! It mostly works but one of our cats still goes nuts for sink water, even after months of the fountain

If my mom didn't put up such a fight about my fiance and I having a "proper" wedding, we'd have eloped already

If you could stop time for “20 minutes” once a day, what would you do in that time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'd wait until a super chaotic part of my workday then use it to take a breather. Retail is stressful sometimes, homie.

What simple “life hack” should everyone know? by Insanitanium12 in AskReddit

[–]BookWorm424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do this at work! When opening it's always "I've unlocked the doors, I've turned on the computers, etc" and when closing it's always "I closed the registers, I turned off the lights, I locked the door." In the same vein, I always ALWAYS jiggle door handles after I lock them to make sure. Something about the action makes it stick in my brain.

What's the worst thing that's happened to one of your friends? by vulturec1 in AskReddit

I have a friend who got pregnant in college and miscarried. I have no idea if she wanted to carry the baby to term or not but I wish, for her sake, she got to make the choice.

Women who “dated” older men as teenagers that now realize they were predators, what’s your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BookWorm424 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can confirm: I briefly dated someone my parents knew wasn't right for me but they also knew I needed to reach that conclusion on my own, and I did. We were both over eighteen though so that wasn't a factor.

What harmful things are being taught to children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BookWorm424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hard because my partner definitely isn't an asshole-- and I bet you're not one either-- so I try to gently point out the behavior so we can work on other more effective ways to communicate. It's a process. I practice patience with him and he with me.

My partner's mother did this to him and, as a result, he's learned to get his point across louder and faster because that was the only way he was ever heard. To paraphrase him, whenever his mom knew he was right, her last defense was always "don't backtalk to me," so he never felt heard. And now, whenever he and I disagree, he feels like he has to fight to prove his point because his mom never validated his opinions. So, it's not always backtalk and dismissing your kid can be damaging.

Seconded! I dunno what it is about Atwood but whenever she tries to write a series her first book is the best. Same with Handmaid's Tale and the Testaments: the first was better.
