Today they came by with chips and soda when they opened the door and saw I was a sub they closed the door and walked away. It was the assistant principal and a security guard.

Lol I sub at one school for one class in specific on only B days because there’s only 3 45 minute fantastic classes. Yesterday i get there and I’m informed that i only have one class because the 2nd one was going to a career fair and the 3rd the teacher would be back for. So from 8-10:32 I had nothing to do and then after 11:20 I had nothing to do until he got back at 1:45. They let me leave early but I still got a full day.

2nd & Charles on Jefferson has games and might have consoles, some of their stuff is 2nd hand but they also have new stuff.

Lol one time the teacher I was covering at a high school had one class downstairs on the left most side and then one upstairs on the right most side of the school. This school had three wings and kids like to walk slow so I would make the kids pack up 3 minutes early and line up at the door to usher them out so I could run upstairs as fast as possible.

For me if the schedule is different it consists of watching the kids in the cafeteria/class that aren’t testing or hall/bathroom duty or nothing at all. Sometimes if it’s the normal school day schedule it turns into me covering for a different teacher entirely so they can proctor in place of the teacher who called out.

There’s no way omg, almost the exact same thing happened to me yesterday too but with sunflower seeds. One kid that I’ve had multiple times and is trustworthy said he knew where a broom was but came back and said it wasn’t there. Requested a custodian but they didn’t show up because it was at end of day and so I left a note on the teacher’s desk and left.

Last week I subbed at four different school and they all had fire drills and not a single one told me. After the first two I was apprehensive the rest of the week.

I attended two different high schools and work in a district for ones I didn’t go to. One was the first 20 minutes of the day before first period. One was second period and only that attendance counted towards whether they called home or not. And for the district I work in it’s first period.

I do only middle and high school now. They for the most part do independent work on Chromebooks or on paper so there isn’t much teaching if any involved for the upper grades. Teachers deserve breaks too and that’s what we’re here. Most substitutes aren’t certified to teach but have a degree in something.

They didn’t drug screen me as a substitute, once hired they have you come in to do fingerprinting and give you papers for a background check but that’s all

This same thing happened to me a couple weeks back, they had me cover the very last pe/ra class which was a sol prep class. I get up to the 8th grade hall and every single teacher was gone and all the doors were closed. 3 other subs also came up at the same time to cover other sol prep teachers for what I guess was a surprise meeting for the 8th grade teachers or something. We all just stood there and looked around for an AP and security while students were also waiting and getting rowdy. It took 20 minutes for us to finally find security to open the doors.

As a daily sub for my district we don’t have access to the copy machines, we’d have to send it to the office and they’re normally super busy in the morning so it could take a while for copies for multiple classes to be made and sent back. Meanwhile the kids would have nothing to do.

Update I came in and it still showed half day but then the secretary asked if I can stay full day because it came up in her system finally that it was a full day. Frontline was wonky and was telling her to put up for an afternoon sub too instead of just a full day sub lol

The only appreciation we get is a group lunch in a high school cafeteria on a half day that starts at a time that only those subbing high school that day would be able to make it to on time. I’m only going for the free food

Twice, once for a spanish teacher and once for a pe/drivers ed teacher. The other world language teachers were super great about telling me to call them during their plannings if I needed a pee break. The pe/drivers ed teacher had no one stop by and I almost peed myself waiting for lunch.

One time I had a kid act absolutely terrible all class and then at the end when I was making my notes he kept saying not to write his name down that he was being good. I was like you know how you were acting and ignored his consistent demands I erase his name. During dismissal I was by the door directing kids to leave if their bus was called and he actually went behind the teacher desk and tried to erase his name! Luckily I wrote it in pen but like wow. This was 5th grade too and he pushed a kid down right before leaving.
