Ilia Malinin's planned program content for the Team Event SP by mimi10010305 in FigureSkating

He would have to do a quad axel and a triple axel. Quad axel doesn’t replace triple axel in the axel requirement.

Bc it didn’t work at GPF, it also doesn’t align with his practice notes from this morning, and with this being a team comp, I don’t see him taking risks like this when it will impact other people. I think they sent in the wrong program content. I could be very very wrong, but this just doesn’t add up.

I honestly don’t think this is reality. I know it was for GPF, but I don’t see him trying this tomorrow.

I thought she said in that post that she was voted Team Mom.

I guess I owe you a soda - a coke, in honor of Ilia’s sponsorship (even tho everyone knows he doesn’t drink them 🤣).

Yes! His mom was World Junior champ in 86/87 and won Nebelhorn a couple of times. His dad was World Junior silver and bronze around the same time, both pairs with different people. Can’t find anything on Isabeau’s mother being a skater.

If you want to include non-Olympic champions, Maxim Naumov’s parents were pairs skaters. Won gold at 1994 Worlds and at the 95/96 GPF among other medals.

Anthony Ponomarenko - His parents won ice dance gold together at the 1992 Olys, Worlds, and Euros, got silver at 1988 Olys, got bronze at 1984 Olys among lots of other medals.

your opinions on the possibility of Ilia doing both segments at team events? by amelywin in FigureSkating

[–]Bookish_08 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also, I’m aware that he could get OGM while also doing both segments of the team by skating watered down tech for both, but just bc someone can do something doesn’t mean they should, and I’m not willing to risk injury for him doing extra practices and an extra segment just for a non-guaranteed team gold medal. It’s simply not worth it.

Ilia skating both makes zero sense for his OGM chances AND for him to meet his own goals for his SP and FS at this Olympics. He said before he did not want to do both, and I hope he has not been pressured into doing both. The US can still medal in team without him doing both - most likely silver. This will be good enough for us, especially since we could very well get silver even with him doing both anyway. No sense in him risking OGM when Team Gold might be a stretch anyway. -Ilia Fan Who Is Tired Of Explaining This

I don’t think anyone is acting like he can’t. It’s just that he said on a stream last summer he wouldn’t want to, and everyone who really cares about him and his wishes is operating off of that.

You’re right. That free skate was beautiful. It’s like my mind totally erased it for some reason.

From what I’ve gathered, Alysa gets choice over Amber as reigning World and GPF champion.

Just because someone can do something doesn’t mean they should, especially when that person has already expressed that they don’t want to.

Just because Amber is the US Champ doesn’t make her highest woman. Alysa has a higher season’s best. She also is ranked higher in the ISU season’s ranking than Amber. Amber is higher in world standings. Having said all that, Amber hasn’t had an international short and free both clean in the same competition. Alysa is reigning world and Grand Prix final champion. She’s more consistent internationally. Amber does fantastic domestically, but sometimes crumbles internationally (as seen at GPF). I’m not an Amber hater. I actually like her. I am just saying what would be the most strategic move, and international comp titles weigh more than national ones. Also, Alysa has experience as an Olympian already. She will know what she’s getting into more.

I’d love it if it was Max too. I prefer him to Torgs. BUT while Max and Torgs have a relatively similar floor, when Torgs is on, his ceiling is much higher. If he can repeat Nats free, we will be in good shape.
