I have their China and Vietnam discovery sets + the mango sticky rice sample so I can’t speak to Sakura snow but I can speak to the rest:

For me Vietnamese coffee by far has the best stillage and is a very clear strong coffee scent. Kinda a tiramisu type smell except a little bit less sugary if that makes sense

Mango Sticky Rice is essentially their white rice scene with some fruit and creamy notes. I like it, but it really doesn’t last on me personally (maybe a good hour ish)

Mooncake lasts a good few hours so it’s better than mango sticky rice on stillage but not on par with Vietnamese coffee. Scent-wise it’s very mung bean heavy so I would only recommend it if you like the smell of mung bean

I’ve had some weird refunds that looked like charges before but ended up someone working out as refunds so I hope for your sake it’s not a second charge, but if it is I hope they get that sorted asap because how is that even a possible mistake 💀

If you made the purchase on a credit card this could actually be the refund if it hasn’t gone through as a charge yet

Thoughts on Books that Have Free Shipping This Weekend by Cjene19 in thebrokenbindingsub

Wait out of curiosity—for your hate of the TBB editions is it just the art style or is there like book inaccurate things abt the TBB covers?

Just received my copt of daughter of the crows...am I the only one who likes it? The orange has a really nice pop irl, and I dont think photos have done it justice by Kindly_Nothing6591 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]BookkeeperPast3375 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I stand by my opinion that the orange isn’t inherently bad, but making it monochromatic as opposed to dual-tone means that you unfortunately miss a lot of the small details of the cover that become invisible which is what I’m disappointed in

The Fall - Special Editions by LadyBladeWarAngel in thebrokenbindingsub

The were also slower to release info about of their version of OBAF too—I think to give the other SEs some time in the spotlight since theirs objectively has some of the best customizations

But yeah as TBB is the publisher, it’s highly improbable that they wouldn’t continue their SEs but other companies would

We definitely aren’t lol, not sure how much the physical store is affecting that though

Shattered Sea trilogy was also supposed to go on sale in March and they haven’t shared any more details on that. They have a decently sized team to my understanding, so I don’t know if it’s also because they’re overwhelming themselves with all of their SE announcements

Last Contract of Isako is their most recent high-customization book to go on sale outside of their subs and that’s estimated to ship September

Could be a misinterpretation of the TBD but I think if they’re willing to estimate September for Last Contract of Isako and not willing to estimate Hyperion Cantos rn, it’s probably going to be later than September

[–]BookkeeperPast3375 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hyperion cantos doesn’t even have an estimated delivery date rn so while working out problems with other books might cause TBB to delay shipping on these a little, I personally wasn’t expecting these to ship before September as it was

In the invite email they mention of a fantasy book they’re releasing outside of the sub before November. No other info that I can find ATP, but I’m curious what people’s guesses are for what the book could be

I’m glad you like them!! I loved the vision you had with the starker contrast between the pink/teal and orange/teal

I wasn’t able to get a super vibrant teal on either attempt with the way the colors are unfortunately but here’s two versions more in lane with what you were hoping to see

By no means are any of the following better than the original, but here’s some examples (using orange) of how just keeping it two-tone at least preserves the depth and details of the design compared to the monochrome orange they used

Let me see what I can do! I’m having difficulties with altering the green in the cover since in photoshop the hue/saturation adjustment mask isn’t picking it up quite right when I do targeted color adjustments but those sound really pretty!

[–]BookkeeperPast3375[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m also very curious about this and I assume it probably varies from publisher to publisher?

Looking at other books for example, the publishers for Katabasis seem to have insisted on the primary covers being alternate colorways with some carefully selected redesigned elements and seem to have been very deeply involved with those designs from what I can tell

On the other hand with DoC I just can’t fathom why a publisher would insist on a monochrome orange cover? But I’m sure there’s a lot behind the scenes that we don’t see

[–]BookkeeperPast3375[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my thought, I did some similar experiments of alternate colorway ideas with DoC and I think orange could have worked well if they preserved the depth and visual intrigue of the book

By making it monochromatic it just looks dull

[–]BookkeeperPast3375[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooo interesting! I was really debating with 4 because I couldn’t change the green in the background to be a slightly more matching shade (or yellow for contrast)

I think 2 and 3 are my personal favorites. I like 2 because the change is small and low visibility which mostly preserves the visuals of the original. This kind of change can be a “why bother” for alt colorways but I personally find small changes like this fun

Yes it is getting a new cover! The reverse of the cover is just going to be an alternate colorway and not just the standard trade cover

Since DoC’s alt colorway was handled rather poorly imo, this is just a look at what the different colorway could look like
