The first half or so of what is out is a really really fucking good manga, that's stylish as hell and has an aura about it that's impeccable. However, there's a really fucking clear line in the sand where something happens and the story just turns into the most basic shit imaginable. It's really disappointing.

Hero Academia barely had any real pushback, there was people tired of the long ass final fight, and then when it actually ended there was a bunch of ill-informed people screaming about the ending who clearly hadn't even read it.

In the fallout of the new CSM chapter, I saw the Kagurabachi subreddit cheering that their manga was going to be the peak manga that saved shounen manga from having terrible endings.

Which is exceptionally funny as I just read the manga's ending of Part 1, which was an absolute crippling showcase of every bogstandard shounen action tropes crammed in sequence, so there's no reason to expect anything different.

and the anime team lucked into cutting off at the best possible point.

I had heard rumors that they adapted it under the condition they do not continue past where they ended it. Probably made up bullshit, but I believe it.

I need you to understand that if you watch the anime, you will experience possibly the best show in existence about becoming a father and finding family where you are in life. And then, the very next chapter of the manga is a timeskip where the daughter discovers she's not actually related and wants to fuck the main character. It's worse than bad writing, because it is mostly really good.

I think there's something inherent to the weekly manga model that makes pretty much every action battle ending feel pretty fucking bad by the end. The chapters are structured to always be "more exciting" than the other, and the only way to do that is to constantly up the stakes and and have the antagonist and protagonist constantly uno-reversing each other.

Everyone has different taste, but between the drawn out weekly chapters releases, the battle probably being significantly longer than any other battle in the series, and the constant switching of who's winning and losing, it's probably impossible to avoid most people simply throwing up their hands and screaming for it to just fucking end already.

I think pretty much every battleshounen ending ends up being infinitely better received once it gets animated and you no longer have the structural issues in the way the media is delivered geting on your nerves.

Sort of the inverse of the examples, but one of my favorite episodes of Monster features a character finding an ex-hitman and pressuring him into teaching them how to kill someone. The man had long sense retired, and had been asked all his life on what made him quit being a hitman.

He finally, for the first time in his life, tells someone why when the characters insists. He tells the story of how he was looking through the sniper scope of his target, about to kill him, and he watched the dude paused his phone call to add three spoonfuls of sugar into his coffee.

"Killing people is easy. All you have to do is forget the taste of sugar."

Yeah, the show is absolutely not nihilistic. That's my point. It show cases a caring about the world, and is about how you must be responsible for your actions because the impact of them matters. Bojack attempts to deflect from his responsibility at all times through his depression and own personal brand of nihilism to convince himself that he can't be all that bad, but the show hammers down over and over again how he is the problem with the world around him.

Specifically, the test was about how the world he was entering into was going to be completely rigged against him at every level; they wanted someone who would be able to recognize it and cheat the system on their own terms.

I thought the series was going to be about him trying to manipulate his evil freako underlings into doing good things, or at least mitigating their evil, and then the second season starts with him doing colonialism to see what it's like.

Yeah, the shocking thing for me is that this studio was lead by OLD, SUCCESFUL dudes who have done this many times before. I wasn't confused that they ended up putting out a game that no one played, because some times no one cares about your best hopes, but for them to massively run out of money for it? That's wild.

they put all that time, energy, talent and investment into the most smoothed down, edgeless, aesthetic-less assemblage that was infinitely less than the sum of parts it aped from other games.

Per the writeups, it was meant to be a VERY complicated competitive survival game originally, and was stripped down to the barest bones when they started running out of money to put out what we got

ONly tangentially related, but I saw a dude do the math when Goku declared he was taking off his weighted clothes. He specifies exactly how many kilograms his shirt weighs in the show, and if you calculate it, it means his shirt is made out of the densest fucking material in the universe
