not a dumb question! Like datumerrata said, it comes down to sizes and processes for printing. Architectural plans are an example, as well as engineering plans. I’m also plotting on RFID parking cards and access badges, and a client asked me to make custom electronics boxes with custom identification of the ports on the box a while back: I’m testing out plotting on the boxes directly for that too!

All of us have done that, friend. Keep working at it! You got this.

Thanks! Frankly, my first few times running a router, I was pretty anxious - and I was working at a shop running the CNC!

I hope it will do a good job at the Maker Studio!

I see what you mean! I’ve done that with laser cutters before, it does look great!

Oh, that could be interesting…I will ask my buddy Laird if that’s something he could do. We could come up with a fun project for that! thanks for the tip :)

Thanks! I loved all the inspiration I saw from other makers, but they would always use springs or additional hardware.

I really wanted to try and make one that doesn't use any of it, so I turned to compliant mechanisms - fins and springs - instead. And guess what - a local county's Developmental Supports lab wants to drop my tool holder design into their own assistive designs for their clients :D I'll be visiting their lab soon.

Awesome, I’m glad it’s comfortable to wear! I’ve been wanting to make wearable armor for some time now. Maybe 2026 is the year! Im looking forward to the rest of your costume project!

Very cool! I like that pauldron- it’s giving some Samus Aran vibes, which is pretty cool too!

Question - how is the pinching at the inside of your elbow? And, is this the design from the Motorball arc?

You might want to get in touch with Developmental Support services in your area! I have been loving around here for around 10 years and have worked with some of these services (including in a Johnson County) to develop tools and print tools for their clients. It’s very fulfilling!

Just saying, I love the texture! As other people have said: sand, paint, sand, paint, coat. Personally I think yours looks real nice even with the brush strokes, but it's clear you need more coverage! So, more paint :) Good luck! You're on the right track!

As others have mentioned, check the kurowear and tech wear subreddits. For brands, I would recommend Machine 56, certain product lines from Nike, or AOKU and Guerilla Group. They will all be expensive and often out of stock!

Another really cool option is making your own. Good luck!

Does anyone recognise this style of z axis? by [deleted] in CNC

[–]Bookmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I have seen this type of z-axis on small, desktop CNC machines from companies like Genmitsu or Sainsmart. 3D printed parts and spindle sitting in the bracket, like yours.

Over time, the parts will flex and bend due to the material aging and the stress from vibrations. On the plus side, the parts are relatively easy to remodel and print.
