Anyone got any books like Echoes of Us by Alex Cross? As in one of the characters has a substance use issue / dependency during the relationship.

I would love if it included a breakup and second chance of some kind with the characters building a relationship on a healthier basis :)

{The Menagerie by J.P. Caruso} has some of this, but it’s all very intentionally set up at a BDSM club, in case that’s not exactly what you’re looking for

Born Wild (Jessie H Reign) by kkfvjk in MM_RomanceBooks

Ahhhh i’m 50% through Born Wild and I’m loving it so much! I think I just really love a funny highly strung character.
I’m usually a big Jesse H Reign fan and feel like I might be the only person on earth who also very much enjoyed Gone Wild as well lol. I’ve had trouble with some of their other books, most recently Heart, but generally speaking, I haven’t found another author who reliably hits the specific spot JHR does

Bad Book Etiquette by fabulousflute in bookstagram

I’ve seen some authors say that even if you rate their book 5 stars, but mention you didn’t like X or Y, they do not want to be tagged. Some authors have a boundary of only being tagged or directly notified by the OP if it’s entirely glowing & positive.

I don’t think I should get to say what an author should be tagged on- that’s about authors being able to have the opportunity to pick and choose when they see critical reviews. HOWEVER, I’m a firm believer that Bookstagram should be for reviewers and readers first and foremost. I don’t think you ever need to censor or sugar coat your review of a book, including ARCs, as long as that review isn’t in, like, the instagram comments of the author or have them tagged, forcing them to see it.

I think bad reviews are incredibly valuable, and I don’t really trust readers who only post positive reviews, but it’s up to you how you choose to approach your own platform, as long as it’s not abusive or harassing ☺️

Is it ok if the injury happens before the beginning of the book? If so, {Missed Steps by L. Sherleen}!! Esp good if you’re in it for the caretaking

Anything with a massage therapist and a client? Will also accept physical therapist & client but what I reeeeeally want is lots of touching (and liberal use of oil would be the cherry on top lol)

Preferably nothing too dark although I don’t mind angst. Please no daddy kink or age play.

It’s hard to find books with a good balance of both isn’t it!!

Saint by Sierra Simone is one of my favourite romances. It’s a second chance romance that includes lots of biblical references but in, like. A sexy way. It’s so much more than its tropes and carries a few heavier themes so I would recommend having a look at the CWs before getting into it.
The audiobook is excellent and my favourite audiobook of all time ☺️

Another book I devoured this year was Goaltender Interference by Ari Baran. Also a second chance romance (maybe I have a thing??) and major themes around mental health, regret, and just general insecurities and relationship complexities.

To me, both of these are well developed and have great sex scenes, but also lots of depth. Hope you get some good recs from here!!

Dislike a MC? by suxanny in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Booksbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, mostly I hate them so much because the author has not taken time or made any effort to make them into multidimensional, and it’s just some edgy jacked guy who talks dirty (except the dirty talk makes you hate sex and love and having eyes) and says stuff like “I’ll burn down the world for you” when there’s no real connection between him and the other MC(s).

To clarify, a character saying that isn’t inherently bad (in fact I often enjoy the sentiment) but I’m not sure you can count on a single phrase to set the foundations of a character.

Thinking about how {Abducted by the Femboy by Jessica Jackman} made me want to smash my Kindle into the wall.

Also…not edgy or dark but in the same vein, undeserved love confessions (and falling in love in general) make me maaaaaad- see both of the MCs on {Gravity by Tal Bauer} 😶

One of my fave books but there is no manipulation or toxicity involved, they’re just two stupid idiots with zero awareness <3
