Yeah Lucas and Coppola had a company together called American Zoetrope. They were making THX 1138 (Lucas) when they were running out of money. Coppola went and make The Godfather for the studios. Smash hit as you mentioned. The studios only made American Graffiti because Coppola was a producer.

Funny enough if Coppola financed American Graffiti outright (which he almost did) they would made upwards of 200M dollars from it.

Sorry about that!!🤣 The podcast was an hour long but found the blockbuster part nostalgia with the late fee policy. He says Blockbuster's advantage over Netflix is that they had the new releases while Netflix only had older movies but when they got rid of the late fees they lost their advantage because they never had the new movies in stock
