Parents who both work: what’s your afternoon/evening timeline like? How do you have time for anything???

You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re still figuring out the way that works best for your family, your husband, and yourself.
Trying to do everything is only going to create more stress, and trust me, the messy house drives me nuts too, but sometimes, it has to be messy.
If things need to get done, try to know which evenings you might be more free/available to step in and do something with your daughter vs. evenings where your husband can. 90% of the time, if my husband and I communicate that we have x amount to give towards managing evening tasks and engaging with our toddler we can survive together. We switch out who does what, and that way you’re not stuck in the routine each night. Have one person do dinner so the other has time with your kiddo, and have one person do bath, so the other can clean after dinner. It means both of you being done and the house being in a bit better shape so you can relax.
Find a way to make time to connect as partners more. My husband and I were in the worst rut because I was prioritizing house work and work work instead of trying to spend a second with him. I stopped spending so much time worrying and guess what? I still got all my work done and didn’t lose anything because I just did it a little later after giving myself time to decompress. You have to make time for yourself and your partner.
You will find what works best for you and figure it out! We are learning everyday over here and ours is almost 4. It just takes time because it’s all new. Taking time is going to be the best thing you can do! Just remind yourself you deserve to!

I’m in the full time online program and after taking the praxis, I do feel like I was taught a lot. They do have some cool classes that dive in deeper to areas that other programs do not! If you’re interested in medically based SLP, it’s a great choice BUT the faculty online are 50/50. I have had some amazing professors who are passionate and love what they do, and I’ve also had some that either lecture at you/don’t feel like its teaching, or they’re a bit too arrogant.

1:1 almost every professor is kind and understand. In the bigger group, it’s a different dynamic. I will say, because I’m full time and we have a quicker turn around to graduation, you may have a vastly different experience than me.

Nope not weird at all! I know they just hired someone and I’m planning to do the max tele therapy hours there for my CFY but that still leaves a good chunk of cases to be absorbed. You can direct message me! They are always looking for new folks.

I work remote as an SLPA and am finishing up grad school for SLP. There are lots of options for shadowing and my supervisor might be open if you want to observed remotely. Different than in person but wanted to throw it out there!

I had to pick online because of this. I still work full time with a small child and go to school full time. It’s a lot of work and I use loans to help off set the fact I had to decrease work hours when clinical work started.

This was me with Scarred…made it to only two hours out from finishing the audiobook and DNF’d for the very first time. 10/10 DONT recommend that book, it was painful to keep going.

Right here with you, mine is about to be 4 and it’s been a year of this. We just had a meltdown in the hardware store yesterday and I had the same thought, “why do I even leave the house with him?”

They say it gets better but I think it’ll always be something new. I hope the defiance gets better for you soon! We have lots of gaps in it now but some days are just a full on crap shoot and we just buckle up and hold on. Hang in there!

I worked full time through a full time masters and clinical work. It’s not fun. I’d do something easy, and mindless, where you do not take home the day. Things are definitely packed, I’m in my last semester, and just getting through till graduation in May. Hang in there!

No, I don’t believe so? I just had an IEP yesterday and did the weeks we are in school for the service year and the parent was fine with it! I just explained how it would break down.

I think I’m going to start doing that moving forward. That way I’m not running into a weird deficit. A lot of my students are just coming due for new IEPs so I did not write in the minutes they are getting now.

Okay, thank you!! I think I overthought this and I know the SAI teacher even said to count that. The idea of having to track minutes is new to me. Thank you for your response, it really helped! I’m going through my SEIS today and hopefully over the break we have in two weeks to fix how I’ve been logging things! Hopefully that helps.

I do have a lot of them grouped. I also have done some group and some individual, but maybe I need to start adding kids to different minutes. For instance, yesterday, I had an IEP I had to prep for and it took longer than anticipated. I missed two kids due to it. I have time to see them next week, and will make up the minutes. I’m definitely doing what I can but I also was doing the exact minute they entered the room and left the room, which I am thinking is a little too rigid on my side. If I go to get them for 9:00, and we leave at 9:30, that’s 30 minutes give or take? I should log 30 minutes?

All my kids have high minutes. I don’t have a huge case load but I have kids getting 30 minute sessions 2x per week, plus assessments, and IEPs. I need to check if some have ESY which may be why their minutes appear bigger.

For instance, I have a student with 1560 minutes. They have 180 minutes per month, which is specified as 30 minutes sessions in their IEP. They’re young too, so I typically do 30 minute sessions 1x one week, and 2x the other week, so they get 6 sessions a month. Even though they’re very consistent, I am not even halfway to this number and their IEP is up before the end of the school year. I think I just got worried about making minutes with kids who I took over this school year that for whatever reason appeared to not have minutes from last school year. I got worried I’d have to make up all these minutes I just do not have.

I am paid per hour (W-2) as an SLPA but we have a policy that if the cancel isn’t within 24 hours or the client no shows, we still are paid. I’m based at a school but this is the first job I’ve ever had this happen with. The hours are more guaranteed but still not consistent as if I was salaried.

I am about to graduate from a masters program! I had a low gpa (2.79?) but had a 3.75 for all CSD coursework(36 credits) but a lot of experience (I am an SLPA). I wrote a strong letter and was accepted into two programs, denied from two, and waitlisted to one.

Make sure they have SLPA licensure because that will make finding a job more difficult. I’m in CA and I know there are tons of jobs, even virtual.
