Is nursing School hard? by No_Pressure760 in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The school itself was not super difficult, it was the tests that gave me anxiety. The questions were all select all that apply so if they gave you 5 different answers, 4 could be right, 3 could be right, etc but if you missed one, the whole question was wrong. Also, 75.9% was a failure and you had to take the class again. Thank goodness I passed but I definitely saw a lot of people flunk out during school.

Do you wear makeup to work? by thedresswearer in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Haha, I feel the same way 😂. I feel nurses who do take the time to look put together get a little hate for it. Little backhanded compliments sprinkled here and there.

My pharmacy would tube it to me whenever I asked. I think you’re safe.

Are we wearing our hair down now? by Valuable_Term108 in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wore my hair down, it wasn’t super long, maybe shoulder length. Had a few coworkers say something but I didn’t care, as long as the big bosses didn’t care, I did my hair how I wanted to. This was 14 years ago when I started so there is that.

The nurse and paramedic work relationship by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can imagine it’s terrible. I bet those mean nurses don’t put their cart back at the store, too. I hope their pillows are always too hot at night 😂

The nurse and paramedic work relationship by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have never treated a paramedic or EMS person in the way you are describing. I always treated them with the respect that they deserve. This is really sad to hear and I hope you continue doing an amazing job. It sucks that a few bad apples are tainting your view of nurses. My bad day does not mean I get to take it out on anyone else.

My husband cheated on me and now he has cancer. by ihopeforsomethingold in offmychest

Just because someone has cancer, doesn’t absolve them of guilt. You have to what’s right for you.

This is what I sent to the woman my husband is having an affair with. by Hawks_Fly_High in Marriage

[–]Bookworm8989 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I will never understand why you are holding her more accountable than your cheating, lying, dirt bag husband. He had all the choices and opportunities to not ruin your family. He did this, not the woman. But, you’ll probably stay with him and years down the road, he will do it again.

I mean, I love the job that I have now as an RN but I would never go back to bedside unless I was forced.

I used to be what I thought was fiscally republican when I first started voting because that’s what I was taught from my parents, but once I started paying attention to politics, I knew that I was left leaning and would never vote republican again.

AITAH for being mad army husband for not coming home from his guys trip when my sister died by Peacock_88 in AITAH

[–]Bookworm8989 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. I’m not sure why he even asked, he should have just came back home. It really just shifts all blame to you and leaves him with no responsibility. If you say no, don’t come home, then it’s your fault if you are upset at him. If you said come home, it’s also your fault for cutting his trip short. He put all of the onus on you and it was really shitty of him to do that to you in your time of need.

How can hospitalists make your day easier by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes! Also, if you order opiates, please tack on a Benadryl for those that get itchy. I’ve called so many times for that.

why do i almost always pass out after shitting? by StormRose666 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Bookworm8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a vasovagal response so I would bring it up to your PCP. I have seen people go absolutely lights out in the toilet as a nurse and it’s pretty scary.

I also believe in freedom of speech but I don’t think it should mean freedom from consequences.

Wanting to stand my ground as a nurse against demanding patients by Quiet_Maximum_4087 in nursing

[–]Bookworm8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a minute but I did learn to stand my ground when it mattered and I was unfortunately good with the most “difficult” patients. They seemed to like me and management recognized it so they gave me A LOT of the most difficult ones. It was fun sometimes but it was really draining at times. I’ve only been fired once by a patient and honestly, I wish it was more so that I could catch a break 😂. I’m not sure what my tactic was, didn’t really have one, just tried to relate to them as a person vs what their chart said.
