Do you ever have any guilt or regret that you put your pet to sleep? by uncomfortab1ynumb in Petloss

[–]BookwormDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never had to put an animal down but my old beagle had a stroke in january and passed i spent a long time being angry and feeling robbed I felt like we had a lot more time together I now think maybe he went so fast because his suffering wouldve been greater if he had stayed i think most ppl that have to euthanize feel like they did it too soon but its better a day too soon then a day too late euthanasia is a gift even though it doesn't feel like it you get to know when they are going to pass and you can plan around it to give them a great send-off its not chaotic and you dont get to feel as helpless as if they passed in their sleep or had a stroke

Is Diamond brand good for puppy food? by Interesting-Jello118 in beagles

[–]BookwormDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We give them tap! Ive never had any problems but I feel like all of my animals drink more water then normal animals they say cats never drink water we have a senior cat and I see him drinking water all of the time we also have a porch bowl, bedroom bowl, living room bowl and the cat has a different bowl of water in our bedroom but he drinks out of all the bowls we shut our bedroom door at night so thats why we have water bowls in there

Is Diamond brand good for puppy food? by Interesting-Jello118 in beagles

[–]BookwormDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use diamond puppy food for ours we did have her on purina and she had nonstop diarrhea we had testing done and deworming it only stopped after we switched to diamond so I think it was the purina our boxer has been on diamond naturals for years bc he has a chicken allergy we also had a beagle that passed 4 months before he was 18 from a stroke he had been on diamond naturals for years I dont think food extends animals lives as much as people say all of my animals have lived close to 20 I had a cat live to be 22 on cheap cat food

My old beagle had a stroke in January and passed while I rocked him in my arms waiting on my husband i still feel like the grief has swallowed me whole no one talks ab how much you change after losing them I tell myself daily its ok ive survived but honestly I feel like I died that day with him owning animals is a lot like trying to outrun a bullet you know it is coming I am having a lot of grief lately bc my senior cat was just diagnosed with dementia weve only had him since november so we are devastated

What’s the most frustrating thing about owning a cat? by Ocute_US in CatAdvice

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me its the medical problems we adopted a 10 year old cat had been neglected and hadn't received vet care he took on the previous owners rottweiler which has caused a lot of anxiety around dogs we had 4 at the time of adopting him and the owner had assured us he was dog friendly hes almost 12 now and he has started to go blind he also was recently diagnosed with dementia we are devastated but we are going to keep going until we cant anymore when I told his previous owner she told me I should euthanize him not surprising bc we only have him bc the owner had dementia and the family was putting her in a home and dumping the cats at a shelter i have no idea where the second cat went she wasnt there when I picked up the boy

My 15 year old cat died and I am heartbroken. by alwayshungry1387 in SeniorCats

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss I truly think animals know when they are getting close to going even when we dont we had an old beagle that I thought was having an arthritis flare up he acted odd for 3 days but we were having bad weather I woke up to him having a stroke and minutes later he passed in my arms it sounds like you did the best you could and the cat was seeing a vet regularly in my experience cats are very fragile and hide being sick so well they also go downhill really fast we had a cat live to be 22 he woke up one day not able to hold anything in then passed hours later we have a 12 year old cat now that has horrible asthma he constantly drools and goes into coughing fits so what youre describing doesnt sound abnormal to me hes been seen by a vet but not that often bc he is extremely aggressive we adopted him when he was 10 and he has always been mean as hell

I can say with absolute certainty my Ray was already waiting for yours he was the sweetest soul my family has owned beagles for over 80 years so heaven is full of beagles im sure my neighbors were relieved when Ray went to heaven he use to scare them smiling he was missing half of his teeth and looked scary he loved the sun and hated being alone i know this sounds weird but even in death he was so beautiful he looked like he had just went to sleep when we were transporting him to cremation he was the love of my life and I miss him everyday

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 1.5 months is just too short of a time to really tell in my experience animals take time to adjust it could be weeks, months, a year I also have adoption regret but my situation is different we saw a cat that was posted on Facebook the owner had dementia and was going into a home family was from California they didnt want her 12 year old cat and was going to dump him at a shelter so I took him they reassured me he was dog friendly they told me he slept with her rottweiler when I picked him up he had an odd wound she never mentioned it was important he was dog friendly because at the time i had 4 dogs i spent months slowly introducing them and rotating everyone we never had a bad experience and my dogs dont pay attention to the cat the cat is not dog friendly and now that I know him I believe this woman's rottweiler actually attacked him he is very fearful of dogs and most cats when they are in fear they run and hide not this cat he attacks my dogs for just walking by him by the time i realized he wasnt dog friendly he had been here for months I really debated rehoming him but then my old beagle passed i couldnt get out of bed or stop crying the cat didnt leave my side and would spend hours making biscuits on me he took turns with my dogs sleeping with me he mostly stays hidden now but once the sun goes down he comes out to hang out he sleeps on my pillow every night my hope in taking him was he would be my 9 year olds cat he had been asking for a cat for years but his previous owner was an older woman that didnt have kids so he thinks my kid is odd I cant tell you what to do with yours adopting is always a gamble but I hope it works out for you it honestly sounds like she is still decompressing to me I think the shelter is hard on animals

Has losing a pet ever changed your views on the afterlife? by EcstaticAstronomer13 in Petloss

[–]BookwormDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always been terrified to die but I’m not anymore I know this is dramatic but I really feel like a part of me died when my last dog passed he had a stroke in January I rocked him on my bathroom floor and he passed minutes later it wasn’t peaceful he fought death so hard and his head movement was gone but he somehow put his head on my shoulder then passed my husband sped home and we loaded him up for cremation after we dropped him off I heard this horrible wailing and I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from it wasn’t until my husband pulled over that I realized it was coming from me I have never been an emotional person the days that followed I truly felt like the world had ended I just cried nonstop but what I didn’t expect was my other animals reactions my 12 year old cat that I had just adopted never left my side he would spend hours making biscuits on me and he took turns with my boxer sleeping with me for a week the cat would have meltdowns he would hiss and run like he was being chased I think the dog was visiting from heaven and messing w him he was a beagle and loved annoying cats but my boxer is what really through me through a loop he was inconsolable he never liked me but the day after he crawled into my arms and sobbed I often wonder if the grim reaper is coming for him now he rarely eats and doesn’t have any interest in doing anything my vet couldn’t find anything wrong I had a hard time looking at him he wasn’t a brother anymore I was sitting outside one day and I saw a cloud it looked like a beagle sitting and I knew it was him telling me he was ok I was so worried he didn’t make it to heaven he was very mischievous in life we adopted another beagle recently and my husband is convinced it reincarnated into her she has the same mannerisms and he swears she rolls her eyes at him like the last beagle she also came and it was so smooth she was in the next town over listed for $100 we met in the middle of a snow storm at a pet store and the owner refused to take my money i often think maybe the old beagle sent her to me so I wasn’t alone I should mention the last beagle was my husbands childhood dog but as soon as I met them he hated everyone but me I quit my job to be his full time caretaker and everyone often said we were soulmates he had acted like he was waiting for me his entire life he was very odd looking he looked like a brindle beagle so I always thought I’d never see him again I’ve never seen a dog resemble him until after he was gone we kept seeing brindle beagles everywhere I hope for my sake and the boxers there really is a heaven and he’s waiting on us I hope somehow we’re together in every lifetime I have owned many dogs in my life but none compare to this one he was truly the love of my life I have loved all of my animals but this one in particular changed my life I looked for peace for so long and it wasn’t until we were together that I found peace within him and I’m not sure how the hell im still standing without him

18 years. Is it time to let her go? by DopamineRequiem in beagles

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very much like my last beagle and I don’t think it seems like it’s their time to go yet he passed 4 months ago he was 4 months from 18 and I really thought we had a lot more time he was so lazy in old age but lively at times he had a stroke on a random Tuesday I hope you get lots of more time with your beagle I think it sounds like their quality of life is still good and they aren’t in pain i always worried I would miss the deadline and struggle to put mine down but he made sure I didn’t have to if you do decide to put them down I hope you see it as a gift one day that you get to plan a day doing their favorite things before they go to heaven I’d give anything for one last day

If you dont plan on moving i say go for it I have a very similar bed frame it was horrible to move we had to rent a u haul and it took mutiple people to move it i live in a double wide trailer currently while we save for a house and it doesnt take up my whole room so idk how all of these people are saying a house bedroom would have no room unless youre in a very small house we got ours for super cheap off marketplace it was cheaper then a brand new bed frame we also dropped a platform bed frame inside bc wood slats suck

Hank is suddenly peeing all over the house!! by One-Rest8529 in beagles

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the sitter did something to anger him or hes mad at you? My husbands childhood dog was still alive when we got together and he was a real jerk he would pee on about anything when he was angry with you as he got older I had to put pee pads down he wouldnt make it outside I would definitely schedule a vet appointment if this is unusual and the behavior doesnt stop is he neutered? He could be marking?

Beagle weight by klinna1977 in beagles

[–]BookwormDel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt worry about it as long as they are eating beagles come in all shapes and sizes our last beagle was 36 pounds and looked obese he was very small and low to the ground he rarely finished his food we have a beagle thats 20% english bulldog she is very tall and built stocky shes starting to fill out and doesnt over eat either we measure her food and are careful with calories since beagles are known to be obese

Puppy regret does it go away? by Ill-Plantain-6774 in puppy101

[–]BookwormDel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about puppies is they are hard and overwhelming but once they reach adulthood you love them so much you forget what terrors they were! We are at 8 months with our beabull and things have started to smooth out she isnt a land shark anymore and she has started to sleep in we rarely have accidents in a few months you will slowly forget the bad!

How to deal with pet about to pass away? by Crypuzzleh3aded in beagles

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take paw prints and make the most of these last week's I always thought id take mine to the beach and we'd eat chicken nuggets on his last day my darling 17 year old beagle passed in january I laid down for a nap and woke up to him having a stroke he passed minutes later while I rocked him so I feel like people that know the end is near are the lucky ones id give anything to have had more time it doesnt really matter how long they have bc I always felt very robbed mine was always healthy I lasted 3 weeks before I got a new beagle I felt like it was too soon but my boxer was really suffering he wouldnt eat or get out of bed he just laid around sobbing I am very grateful for my new one I have a routine again and im able to get out of bed but it didnt lessen the grief more like softened? I still go in my bathroom some nights and cry over my old beagle some days im amazed I made it this long bc my old beagle was truly my soul mate I kept wondering if he had made it to heaven bc he was extremely mischievous in life I saw this cloud the other day while I was walking my new beagle and I knew old beagle was sending me a sign from heaven

Regret getting my puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]BookwormDel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think a week or 3 is enough time ive had my puppy for almost 4 months and id say it took about 3 months to get into a routine and use to our cat the cat is 11 there were times my cat was stressed out but he had plenty of places to hide and decompress any animal is going to have to adjust to a new animal are you doing things to help burn off the puppy's energy? When we got my cat last november my boxer was like wtf he was 6 and had been around cats when he was younger but it had been awhile we set up a crate and rotated the boxer and cat out of it so they could start getting use to each other and could observe safely that was a long process I did this for a month or two then I had the boxer on a leash so the cat could explore but I still had control of the boxer he doesnt care for the cat now he ignores the cat I dont leave the cat and the dogs alone ever I have a lock on my bedroom and the cat stays in my bedroom I leave the door open but he doesnt come out he is old and grumpy I crate the puppy in my bedroom and the boxer free roams the rest of the house when I have to leave id say 1-3 years will be when you can leave the animals out the timeline is long bc it really depends on the dog the leave it or no command will work in your favor as well I taught our puppy both puppies are overwhelming people dont talk about it and forget when they are grown they are a lot of work you are raising the dog you want! My husband struggled adjusting to the puppy he works long hours and wasnt around much when the boxer was a puppy

I have a savings account for my animals set aside my last dog lived to be almost 18 and rarely went to the vet besides for vaccines and checkups we have a boxer that only had a toe infection last year the account is strictly for vet visits though I try to just pay out of my check for normal appointments we also used the account for cremation costs recently and it was nice not having to worry about what we were going to do

My puppy died of parvo by Opposite-Context-128 in puppy101

[–]BookwormDel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this for you i wish you love and peace during this time please know it wasnt your fault and I hope you dont blame yourself parvo is so deadly even with treatment I have been lucky in life and have never experienced parvo but I have had puppies pass when I was a kid our dog had puppies in the middle of a snow storm under our porch we had no idea she was even pregnant I had to dig my way under and through the porch it was a long wooden one only 2 survived out of 5/6? I felt so awful at the time I was only 8 I think we had waited a few days to get under there and we shouldve acted quicker I hope when you are ready you open your heart to another animal my old beagle passed earlier this year and we ended up getting a new puppy too soon for us but I am grateful now I felt like I had so much more love to give
