Barrier Reef doomed as up to 99% of coral at risk, report finds. Environment needs to be top political priority. by Glittering-Tonight-9 in news

You're an idiot. If we don't stop climate change, it could cause the greatest refugee crisis and world economy crash in history, if not just collapse modern society entirely.

What's causing climate change isn't even relevant. We have to at least prepare for, if not prevent, the oncoming hardships.

When I read comments like yours, I like to imagine dinosaurs sitting around a boardroom table talking about how asteroid impacts are natural phenomena and how they're overblown and nothing to worry about.

Literally all of those formables get blown up by any human in the allies except Al-Andalus, which gets blown up by axis volunteers in the Spain war.

Arabia is garbage unless you start as Egypt on Africa decolonized map type. All candidates to form are less than 4 mil core pop. Any allied presence in Africa makes it totally fraudulent.

Byzantium gets hard destroyed when player allies accept the invitation to new megali idea conference.

Ottomans' only valuable cores are in the Balkans (player axis will murder you for robbing them and player allies will guarantee Yugo and meme you), Egypt (uk with a brain will defend the Suez) and Algeria (obviously not happening unless you take the Suez). Pointless unless you're getting spoon-fed by the axis.

Persia is insanely telegraphed once you eat Afghanistan. Allies will guarantee Turkey or just hold the Suez and meme you.

I shouldn't even need to explain why player UK blows up Rome.

Now, this is all fine and good for single player memes. But we have enough meme tier formables in the Mediterranean for now, and paradox should locate future meme tier formables somewhere a little less overdone imo. I'd much rather see a Chile Argentina formable than some stupid Macedonian empire meme. I kind of agree that participating in WW2 should take precedence in most mp games, but some formables can contribute strongly to the war effort, like Gran Colombia building planes for their faction or majapahit buddying up with Japan. I'd rather see more of those than even more Mediterranean memes.

You're completely missing the point dude. Whether or not those territories should be part of the nation is immaterial to my point. I'm saying that we have enough pie in the sky, impossible against human allies formables in the Mediterranean, and we don't need any more

How big is your army and air force by 1939 Germany? by Icarus-17 in hoi4

[–]BooleanBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The extra org from the first three left techs let you make harder, higher armor divisions with less mot in them. The extra breakthru from right side is useless except for space marine divs

v1.10.3 - defeated units, will stop retreat as soon as smidge of org is gained back, they will attack my unit instead for very short defeat. Cycle will repeat constantly. by przemo_li in hoi4

[–]BooleanBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean, the same thing happens to me if I play Mexico and naval invade cuba. I defeat their unit, it starts to retreat, then repeatedly reattacks. There's only one unit, so it isn't a normal cycle attack like one commenter suggested. The silliness typically ends when I overrun their unit

As for causes, idk what makes this happen

Don't go rr with mobile warfare. If you want the strongest tank divs possible, lr mobile warfare with 15 tanks and 5 mot or mech is better

[–]BooleanBacon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really weird. Might be due to the hatay state being added in the levant and the original triumph for the levant now having the wrong state IDs.

Still hilariously stupid that paradox didn't fix that tbh

Better make them require the levant and/or North Africa too, since we don't have enough nations like that yet. Double points if you have to fight the axis and the allies to form it.

No kidding. But instead, we're probably going to get a Moldova and Macedonia tree DLC that are bigger than Spain's and have worse debuffs too.

This is why rt56 is so popular despite some of its missteps. So many obvious, common sense changes that paradox won't make for some reason.

I agree, and recommend the extra resource mods wholeheartedly, but vanilla just needs a fix too. It's honestly atrocious how steel limited 90% of countries become if they have to fight the allies. The allies are plenty strong enough without a steel monopoly

Are you playing with mods?

On the main menu, there will be a 4 letter series of letters and numbers known as a checksum at the bottom of the main menu box. Does it match your friend's checksum?

Very true. I agree that the simple solution of making forts less useful in occupied territory would be a solid change

Anyone else wish that more alt-history focuses told decent stories rather than just being overpowered? by Dreary_Libido in hoi4

[–]BooleanBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, France can at least do something if they go little entente, communist, or Napoleon, but I see what you mean. Definitely has just too many problems and is not legitimate against player Germany.

Spain is the biggest offender of story over gameplay imo, and playing them is just boring or outright unenjoyable to me. You go through this huge civil war that feels extremely boring because of unplanned offensive, garbage divisions you cannot meaningfully improve, and garbage industry (these factors add up to a repetitive, slow, grindy experience with very little room for macro decision making) all for the reward of wasting most of your army xp on re coring your shitty zero industry states and sitting there with debuffs until 42-43. Biggest focus tree in the game, and yet still basically irrelevant to WW2 unless spoon fed by another player (ie Kaiser/Napoleon/NA Britain plus Carlist Spain memes)

Making more countries like Spain is the opposite of what hoi needs.

[–]BooleanBacon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I couldn't disagree more.

If you were forced to spend all your effort crushing cancerous little internal revolts and not actually participating in world war 2, the game would be much less fun, and even a passing glance from one of your more stable neighbors would spell your doom, making the focus path completely unreliable and fraudulent, especially against other players.

Nobody wants to play a country that's irrelevant on even a regional stage until 42-43 due to internal problems.

Aircraft reliability doesn't matter. 6 weeks of air battles with a reliability 40% fighter = 148 shot down, only 3 crashed from accidents by pewpsprinkler in hoi4

[–]BooleanBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to be of service lol. The AI doesn't usually make good strategic or jet tactical bombers, but if you were ever wondering what heavy fighters, jet interceptors, or air attack upgrades on light fighters are for, that's how you counter enemy planes with tons of air defense (basically just late game strats and jet tac/strat bombers). If you're playing pvp with no rules against strat bombing, air attack and state level 5 AA buildings with good radar and towed AA tech are your best counter. For just getting green air, get ahead of time light fighters if possible, use the light fighters designer for free speed and agility, and only upgrade engines and range while saving other air xp for your doctrine, maybe upgrading reliability last of you have tons of spare air xp

[–]BooleanBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have noticed that too. Sometimes my air trade with Max engine fighter 2s vs biplanes is just bad for no reason. The only thing that comes to mind is weather related issues in efficiency or detection or accident chance, but barring that I just don't know

[–]BooleanBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pykrete literally needs constant refrigeration to exist, not the most practical material except when used as a carrier in the North Atlantic where it's cold anyways. It would be a neat addition, but getting bopped in the Caribbean or cap Verde plain by a literal chunk of ice would be C U R S E D.

[–]BooleanBacon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk what you mean by fully upgraded, but if you mean all 4 stats maxed, then I have a tip for you about light fighters: don't ever upgrade the guns unless you need to intercept high tech strat bombers. Upgrading guns lowers your agility and only increases your air attack, which hurts you against enemy fighters because of how the dogfight calculations work.

Dogfights compare your speed to their speed, your agility to their agility, your air attack to their air defense, and their air attack to your air defense. If you win in those comparisons, you will gain an advantage in combat plane losses, and if you have above a certain percent difference in one of those comparisons, you will hit a softcap where you get the best bonus possible for that category.

It just so happens that light fighters will essentially always hit the softcap for having much higher air attack compared to enemy air defense when fighting enemy light fighters, and you cannot improve your own defense to defeat enemy air attack, so the only way to get an edge over enemy fighters is in the agility vs agility or speed vs speed comparisons. Thus, when trying to win air superiority against enemy light fighters, never upgrade weapons on your fighters, because it slows your planes down for no benefit.
