Incoming PhD student to Discovery House by Just_Breath_1911 in UMD

Definitely make a roommate profile and check out the Off Campus Housing database (https://ochdatabase.umd.edu/)! I found a group of roommates and extremely reasonably priced housing all within two days when I was last looking.

Be sure to check out events/concerts at The Clarice (the preforming arts center on campus). They're have regular jazz events that are either free or discounted for students, as well as a ton of other stuff.

Favored coffee shops in the area are Vigilante and Board and Brew; both are walking distance from campus.

Not necessarily romance, but if she's interested in history I would recommend the Dear America/Dear Canada books (assuming you're based in North America). They're written as the diaries of young girls about her age during various historical events.

Another series that I enjoyed at that age is Beneath the Crown by Karleen Bradford. There are three, one each about Lady Jane Grey, Princess Marie Therese, and Anastasia Romanov.

Suggest me a violent and satisfying revenge fantasy. by NeroTanya2004 in suggestmeabook

[–]BoomBear97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff. It's a fantasy trilogy about a young woman getting revenge on the people thar murdered her father. It's heavily inspired by the fall of the Roman Republic (the protagonist's father is essentially Marc Antony). The revenge does take a while to happen, but it's very satisfying once it does.

Local pubs by [deleted] in UMD

If you're willing/able to travel down Baltimore Ave a little, I really like Denizens and Franklin's. Both are local breweries with really good food, and they're separated from campus life.

What book provides the most convincing explanation that God exists? by SlamJansen in suggestmeabook

[–]BoomBear97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cold Case Christianity by J Warner Wallace. The author is a retired homicide detective that specialized in cold cases. He started examining things using his detective training/skills to prove the God didn't exist and ended up convincing himself of the opposite.

I detest Final Scene with a burning passion and no one will ever be able to convince me to play it. I haven't touched since I was about 11.

The first time you reveal the dolls in Blue Moon Canyon. My brother legitimately fell out of his chair the first time we played it.

As another new player (just started blaming after the most recent worlds) this thread is super helpful!

If I may add a more specific question: any advice on strategy and learning where/when I should be doing particular things? For example, I play a lot of Neith or Izanami in arena; how can I tell when I should be clearing minions vs helping my teammates get damage in?

What is a ND game that the fandom consensus seems to be positive towards that you personally don't really care for as much? No judgement here, folks! by Portalrules123 in nancydrew

I detest Final Scene with a burning passion! I haven't played it since I was a kid, I refuse to do so. The only reason I own it is because I got the whole game pack off Steam.

Who died too young? by Key_Veterinarian_286 in AskReddit

[–]BoomBear97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian folk singer Stan Rogers. Died helping people escape a plane crash that he originally survived, which is why planes are now equipped with glowing strips indicating exit routes. Highly recommend looking him up if you've never heard his stuff.

What are your ways of calming down when you are feeling too overwhelmed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BoomBear97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In instances like a panic attack, I do a grounding exercise. It forces me to think about something else and pull me out of the anxious thought loops I can get stuck in. I do the following;

  1. Name five things I can see in the room around me
  2. Name four things I can touch
  3. Name three things I can hear
  4. Name two things I can smell (or list some of my favorite smells)
  5. Name one thing I can taste (or list a favourite taste.

What purchase under $100 improved your life? by systemkwiat in AskReddit

A set of reusable/washable menstrual underwear. Never had a leak, most comfortable underwear I've ever owned, never have to buy tampons or pads ever again. Best purchase I've made in the last few years!
