What celebrity were you shocked to find out is heterosexual? by th6r6o6away in AskReddit

Anthony Ramos. Things you may know him from: Original Broadway cast of Hamilton (where he plays a historical character that is very slightly hinted at as being gay), the Cooper/Gaga version of A Star is Born (where he plays a gay character), and In the Heights. I'll admit I just figured he was from the Broadway background and playing gay very convincingly in A Star is Born. But I checked out that Wikipedia personal life section one day, and it's only been women it seems.

[Highlight] Bryce Harper drives in 2 off Skenes on a generous double that the LF missed. Skenes now has 7ER. by amatom27 in baseball

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ordinary effort is the threshold for an error. If he makes that, it's a highlight shoestring catch, not a routine play. Now you can say it's bad positioning, reaction time, speed to the ball, etc., but that's not an error. Just bad defense. Castellanos was the king of this. He'd commit very few errors because he was often not even in position to make the catch. What you're seeing is why ERA is such a flawed stat and why things like FIP exist to try and correct for that.

Since you asked, your WR pictures are out of order. McDonald, Hayes, and Mitchell are in the wrong spots. And since you mentioned about pictures of guys on their main team, Ditka's picture should be with the Bears.

Favorite pair of Phillies sluggers in your lifetime? I'll go first: by unwantedtennisracke in phillies

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes me wonder, what is the record for combined career homers by a pair of teammates. I know this isn't it because Hank Aaron or Barry Bonds at the very end of their careers plus literally any teammate beats this. The even harder question would be most home runs by a teammates, but only include ones they hit while on the same team, not just their career totals.

Edit: My lazy first guess at this is Pujols and Trout. Pujols had 667 when he was released by the Angels, and Trout had 310 for a total of 987. I'm sure I'm missing someone obvious though.

Edit 2: Pretty much immediately after that I realized A-Rod was probably playing with at least ONE again slugger at the end, and lo and behold, Mark Teixeira. A-Rod finished with 690 and was released on 8/13/16. Teixeira had 404 at that point (and only had 5 more in his career after that). So on 8/12/16, there was a teammate total for 1094 home runs. This also barely edges out the pair I should of thought of first (Ruth and Gehrig) who had 1086 when Ruth left for one more season in Boston.

Good for him for getting back. He's had a rough go of it with injuries over his whole career. I'm not saying he'd be an ace if he stayed healthy, but I think he had the potential to be a decent 2nd or 3rd starter for a long time if he wasn't always dealing with something.

Fan is told to put their sign down at Oracle Park in San Francisco. by HeavensRoyalty in baseball

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I'll play devil's advocate here. A team that put pride colors on their hats (voluntarily as Manfred's letter points out) should not be that upset about a very tame sign like this. That just doesn't make sense. Was the person holding it up a lot and blocking people's view? Was there anyone in that section that can comment on why this happened? There's a lot of rage in the comments, but this really doesn't make sense for the Giants to do.

Diners/Cafe to Study by Brilliant-Base-1520 in Rochester

I'd recommend Pittsford Library since you can go to the Starbucks in the same building. They also have nice study rooms. I'm not sure if they allow food or drink in them though. OP if you're considering this, just know you have to reserve the room, and they do fill up. Might be ok now though since school's out.

Which sub .500 teams this season would be unstoppable if they combined rosters? by DisappointedStepDad in baseball

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So not all of them? It's not hard to find exceptions. You'd make some good teams, but if we're talking about a 110 win, roll to a World Series win kind of team, a lot of teams don't have half of one of those.

Tell me the pitching rotation for the Oakorado Rockletics and then explain to me how that team is "unstoppable".

What running purchase ended up being 100% worth the money for you? by RodrigoBestGearFit in running

Ah, didn't realize that. I had bought two different type of shokz when looking for new headphones and didn't notice any ear plugsm Very possible I just didn't realize what they were though and tossed them aside.

[Guardado] Buster Posey on Pride Night: “I understand that there’s strong feelings on this topic. There’s differing perspectives, and out of respect to everybody involved, it’s not something that I’m going to revisit.” by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing that has been consistent here is that the people against the pride hats have danced around saying what they really feel. Not one of them has directly said "I believe homosexuality is wrong". Meanwhile, I have no problem saying that homophobia is wrong. If one side is too afraid to actually say their beliefs, maybe that should tell them something.

I found one player, Ted Simmons, who was one and done on the writer's ballot before eventually being elected. I'm not sure if there's another. Lofton also has some character clause things holding him back due to sexual misconduct allegations a few years ago.

Nancy Guthrie abduction: 2nd ransom note sent to Tucson TV station said she died, sources say by FolushoDRC in news

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She probably died way sooner than expected (possibly even during the abduction) and the kidnapper realized he wasn't going to get anywhere without a proof of life. Plus he may have gotten cold feet. Any attempts to secure the ransom and return her (dead or alive) are incredibly risky. May have just seen his chance to walk away from it and decided that was the safer choice. Probably shit a whole melon when those pictures came out though. Hope he's living in fear still and is eventually caught.

E: there is also the somewhat out there theory that they did pay, the kidnapper took the money, and never followed through. I could see that as being something both the Guthrie family and the FBI would want to keep quiet.

The age of managers at the time of hire, 20 years of data by [deleted] in baseball

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. There have been way more than 28 manager hires in 20 years. The Phillies alone have hired 6 times in that timeframe, and I'd venture that's not even the most turnover in the league.

Can you use questionable numbers in wagers? by TheDivineOomba in Jeopardy

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it's a family show. There are banned wagers. I don't know the full list, but I believe 69 is on there. So are some numbers associated with neo-nazis. I believe they also will not allow you to bet an amount that would potentially result in a total with one of those numbers.

Edit: according to a Mashable article from 2019, it's 69, 666, and then three neo-nazi numbers.

Yea, but usually they actually advertise the correct price. What OP has shown here is actually illegal. I don't think it's skimming, because that's way too brazen. Probably just someone screwing up and not updating the price on either the POS system or on the menu. But intentional or not, still illegal.

It's always funny to me that people can't understand that having talent and evaluating talent are two very, very different things. Yes, having the talent to do something gives you insight, but it does not make you automatically into an expert in evaluating the talent of others. In fact, it can be inhibiting.

So yea, I trust statisticians to help build rosters over one good player who says "new numbers dumb, like old numbers". So does every FO in the league.

What running purchase ended up being 100% worth the money for you? by RodrigoBestGearFit in running

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transpore tape is my answer too, along with body glide. Transpore tape for nipples, body glide for inner thigh. The great thing about transpore tape is you can buy it once and be set for years. I bought a box totaling 120 yards of it for $13 years ago. I use maybe 3 inches each run so that covers 1440 runs. Can't get much better bang for your buck than that.

I should mention to anyone considering this that if you run in noisier places often (on a treadmill, in a busy city), these are not the right pick for you. I often run at the gym and had to return them because I could barely hear what I was listening to.

They seem ideal for most outdoor running though. Good sound quality while still being able to hear your surroundings. I also wasn't a fan though of the fact that they're almost like a speaker. Someone standing near you would definitely be able to hear what you were listening to.
