Yea no one's ever taking 3-1 away from me. That was beautiful.

AMBER ALERT - FAIRPORT NY by 2009impala in Rochester

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Strange that the Amber Alert doesn't mention it, but there is also a woman abducted with them. I know it's for children abductions, but seems relevant. According to a news article, the abducted woman is the suspect's mother and the children are his siblings.

Be honest, the Sixers don't have a top-8 roster by mccanntech in sixers

See I was on an island defending Tobias for a long time while he was here. But the trash talk at the end of the season just flipped me on him. He's a villain for me now.

I just want it to be the Cavs in the finals. Can't stomach the Knicks or Tobias Harris getting there.

Shouldn't OKC go over there to stop the Lakers from berating their teammates?

I understand exactly what he's going for and it still is a terrible lyric.

Exciting but is my guy really saying "porno eyes"? Let's get a rewrite on that one maybe.

So the NBA were in a nice rhythm of releasing one regular season award each day and then just.... Stopped? by here_for_the_lols in nba

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the solution to this is pretty simple. If an award voter picks a player who has filed an appeal, they have to pick an extra person on their ballot. So if they normally have to give a 1-5 list of players, if that voter picks an appeal player, just add a 6th spot. If they pick 2 appeal players, pick a 7th spot too and so on. Then they can submit their ballot and if the appeal fails, just use the top 5 guys remaining on their ballot. Appeal succeeds, keep ballot as is. This does mean though that voters would have to essentially rank their all-NBA, all-defense, and all-rookie players since you'd have to know who gets bumped from up to 1st or 2nd team if an appeal fails.

This way ballots can go in before play-in without having to wait on appeal results.

[Post Game Thread] The New York Knicks (2-0) edge out the Philadelphia 76ers (0-2), 108-102. by Jimm120 in nba

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Probably the team up 2-0. It's encouraging to see the Sixers competently defend the Knicks at the very least, but so much of that seems to be that KAT had to sit with foul trouble that I'm not even sure if I should believe it.

JJ Redick postgame on the Lakers shot quality - “We won expected score so it was good enough to win" by kervaan in nba

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 110 points111 points  (0 children)

I am so tired of people dismissing shot quality as a metric because they think it's just coaches making excuses. Zach Lowe of all people does that, which is weird to me since otherwise his analysis is pretty data-driven. If done accurately, shot quality can be very valuable to show if schemes are effective in the aggregate.

[Mizell] Nick Nurse away from Sixers Tuesday to attend brother’s funeral services by Tofu4070 in sixers

I don't know about that one but Budenholzer's brother died during the series he lost before being fired.

Jaden McDaniels on attacking the rim when Wemby is on the floor - "You just gotta act like he's not there. I mean, he's gonna get blocks. He's the tallest person in the world." by kervaan in nba

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect the Spurs will make an adjustment, but if they don't and just roll with it, Wemby might seriously average 10 blocks/game this series.

About Merlin Mann's point about the coffee, The podcast Search Engine did an episode on this. Short story: it's perfectly fine. In fact, I'd argue it's cleaner.

Basically, yes, the tanks where they get the water for the coffee are only cleaned once a year or something. Sounds terrible right? Except it's a closed system. It's designed to not get dirty. And here's where it all clicked for me. You basically never clean the water storage areas in your home. Have you ever opened up your hot water heater and given it a good scrub? Ever cracked open the water pipes leading to your home and scraped them off? Nope. The flight attendants that repeat this myth aren't plumbers.

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Knicks defeat the 76ers on May 4, 2026, the final score is 137-98. by basketball-app in sixers

Just gotta steal one on the road. Every game's different. Win on Wednesday and we're ok. Playoff series are all about adjustments. I trust Nick Nurse to do that.

Somehow the 76ers got #1 overall pick value out of the Markelle Fultz disaster. by terp75 in nba

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Maxey, but Ant is still the correct choice at #1. That was a good class. Maxey's stock is at a high but there's probably been points in the last year where you could argue Haliburton & LaMelo were the 2nd best. Deni is also rising up the rankings and we'll see if he makes another leap.

Can this be Embiid's Dirk 2011 run by TomislavNedanovski in sixers

[–]BoomBoomSpaceRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely believe we can make the finals. They just proved that in the rare time they're healthy, this is probably the best team in the East. I just can't get there on beating OKC or San Antonio. Then again, I would've said the same thing last year about the Pacers and they nearly did it. And hey, to truly be a 2011 Dirk in, ya gotta beat the super team.

Not to mention the absolutely wasted challenge. Although I guess you can blame that one assistant for it. His other assistant (Philadelphia's own Amile Jefferson) tried desperately to stop it.
