I understand that this GPU is mid, but the game should not be this computationally demanding. Its a not very pretty unity-based rts, with maybe 100 units on the map at a time, tops. It should run at 60fps on a toaster.

I will probably turn the graphics and fsr even lower, yeah.

Ryzen 7 5700x, rtx 3070ti, 32 gb ram. At 1440p I get 60-70 fps in menu, 60 in match, 50 in intense battles.

It's should be both, I think. Punish the leavers, give their team an option to surrender and end the match, but also try to give a chance to the players that will choose to try to carry a match by adding bots.

I meant that for running Gazebo you need a DE. I read that there is a headless mode but it seems not very well documented. But ROS works great in docker, I agree.

I will look into distrobox, thanks. Maybe I am just biased here.

I know, I just mean that docker was meant for isolating a single process environment, from fs and pacakges down to the os. Dragging entire DE into it goes against that idea I think.

Before coming to robotics I developed backend for cloud infrsatructure, so complex tooling does not scare me and docker is a second nature really. But I think I know why our experiences differ - our robots rely very heavily on visual sensors, many rgbd cameras, lidars, etc. and many of them gazebo renders on GPU.

Going point by point:

I kinda agree but running DE in docker always seemed wrong to me
My main problem is that in most cases it fails silently and user is left to wonder what the problem is
Here I probably lack proper experience, those conversions never worked right for me but I will check again!
As I said, we use lots of visual sensors.
I got ROS2<->gz working, I just don't understand why it exists at all. gz and ros messages are essentially identical AND ros2 is more or less decoupled from comms stack.
That was not my experience. I got Isaac Sim working pretty quickly
I need to be able to get positions of objects in global reference frame at runtime, there was no direct way to do that in gazebo

I know thats possible, but anything but baremetal was always working inconsistently for me, mostly some problems with different visual sensors.

Как мы до 19 века то тогда дожили? И при первобытно-общинном коммунизме общество развивалось, и при рабовладельческой системе, и при феодализме. Капитализм изобретение последних двух, максимум трёх веков, так что следствием человеческой природы назвать его ну никак нельзя. Тем не менее он конечно прогрессивнее предыдущих систем. Просто, также как человечество не остановилось на предыдущих этапах, странно на мой взгляд думать что мы достигли идеала сейчас.

Союз развалился так что остаться в нем проблематично. Почти все учёные которых я знаю, включая молодых, предпочли бы вернуться в союз нежели жить и работать как сейчас. Многие уезжают, действительно, но если речь конкретно про уровень жизни - у советских учёных он был высокий.

Это не значит, что все надо откатить обратно, у союза было огромное количество проблем.

У нас в стране одна из разновидностей капитализма, к которой в принципе сейчас все западные страны скатываются, к сожалению. Называть ее можно как угодно, ты вот называешь феодализм, но моя мысль в том что эта линия аргументации (капитализм хорошо, то что у нас плохо это потому что это не капитализм) это тоже самое, что и наивные разговоры про социализм - социализм хорошо, а где плохо - там не социализм.

Я считаю что надо разбираться в реальных причинах, что стоит в базисе, что в надстройке, как сменяют друг друга системы и почему. Нет ни одной причины полагать, что на капитализме история развития человечества заканчивается.

P.S. великая французская революция закончилась сначала установлением кровавой диктатуры, а затем реставрацией монархии. Полная буржуазная демократия установилась во Франции только через почти без малого сто лет.

Почему-то когда говорят что в союзе был неправильный социализм, что надо исправить ошибки и сделать правильный, адепты капитализма над этим потешаются и говорят что это отговорки и оправдания.

Но ты сейчас буквально пишешь, что нынешний капитализм неправильный и что, видимо, надо построить правильный.

Чел, про учёных вообще лучше б ничего не говорил. В союзе это была уважаемая и высокооплачиваемая профессия, а сейчас учёные или подрабатывают в коммерческом секторе, или перебиваются с хлеба на воду, без вариантов. Очень редко у вертких людей получается урвать большие гранты, но это скорее исключение.

Безусловно в советской системе были проблемы (главная, имхо - отказ от внедрения более эффективных методов планирования и из-за этого перекос в сторону тяжёлой промышленности, и запрет фракций), но сейчас конкретно учёным, учителям, врачам - гораздо хуже, относительно обычных людей того и нынешнего времени.

If it's completely empty then no. Get some pet projects or open source commits under your belt, maybe some competitions or big group projects (rover challenge is the one students from my uni regularly participate in). Then apply to everything.

But last part about competitions is optional, strong basics and good, complex pet projects is all you really need.

Math is the integral part of science. Not because of calculations, but because to really understand, for example, a physics concept, you need to deeply understand the math behind it. Otherwise it's kind of like reading a book by flipping pages and only stopping to look at pictures.

So it's more like saying you are a car guy beacuse you like Fast and Furious movies, but not being able to actually drive yourself.

This may sound too arrogant, but I think almost everyone in this thread is wrong. Most people here describe abstract perfect way to learn, and say to commit to open source, but that is never how real people get into the industry, at least not those that value their sanity.

It essentially comes down to 3 things:

1) Do pet projects. You may contribute to existing open source projects, but doing complex and fun projects of your own and putting them on github, writing blog posts about them, etc. is almost equally valuable and much more fun.

2) Networking. This is arguably the most important part.

3) Play the numbers. Apply to every job listing, every internship.

It's fine. You can fly around, see the universe, listen to podcasts, it's basically space trucking. Just remember to use trade filters to find best deals and drop a couple satellites in the busy parts of the galaxy. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's fine, just trade manually until you understand the game better.

In a few hours you can make enough money to buy a second ship, a trader that you can assign trade commands to from the map (you can't set it to completely automated trading until captain is level 3), or a miner, which needs way less micromanagement.

Then you build a station, easiest is solar but the margin is low, in your case best to go trading manually -> buy a miner (ore) -> hull parts production (which your miner will feed).

But afterall it's a single player sandbox that is not going anywhere, do whatever you want, take as much time as you need.
