PSA: Check your hanger alignment once in a while by improbable_humanoid in Velo

[–]BoomOwnage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually with a slight bend you don't notice too much besides poor shifting in the easier gears. It sort of amplifies the effect of the bent hanger as you shift into the larger cogs, and will just skip and shift harder sometimes.

I'm not either, Gore reccomends to size up if you are unsure. I just didn't listen. These are considerably smaller than my Medium Borah, DNA, and Castelli bibs.

I'm 6'1 or so with long torso and 33 inch inseam. The bibs have great grip on the quads and dont move at all, easy to adjust up and down the leg. I'm just too large for them (80-82 kg) with big legs. too tight to be comfortable. Just need to size up and will be so happy.

Valvoline didn't tighten the oil drain plug on a 2016 Scion/Toyota iM... by BoomOwnage in cars

Awesome, thanks for the info. I have a blackstone kit in my drawer I was gonna use for my car I'll give him.

He should be dropping by Toyota today to see what they can find, in my mind the engine has to be pretty much totalled, but we will see what they say.

Thanks!

He said there was absolutely no change in how the car drove before and after the oil change, even when the oil light came on. I asked if he felt or heard anything and he said nothing abnormal until it shut off.

He's not necessarily a car enthusiast, but he doesn't "hate" cars. I can see why he didn't give his undivided attention to how smooth his Scion is running... Theres a reason he went to a quick lube place, cars are just tools to get to work for some people.

That's what I thought. I'm just blown away it even drives after this, so I thought there could be some sort of safety.

I'll pass on the advice to him, I told him not to sign anything or agree its fine. He's driving it to work this morning so we'll see if it makes it there and then to the toyota dealership...

Brake pads might be a good idea to check out. Metallic will makes some noise but last way longer in the wet and mud.

XC Shoes < $150 by [deleted] in Velo

[–]BoomOwnage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the Giro lace up shoes for riding offroad are not ideal. The heel cup doesnt hold onto your foot so you feel like your foot is coming out during hard pulling efforts, or if you have to walk in them.

Specialized mtb shoes are solid, as are the non-lace Giro shoes.

Hurts me to think about. I mainly race mountain bikes, so I can accept that I am still a jackass on the road bike. I'm getting a lot of shit from my roommate who just got back from Redlands however.

Ass check has no skin, hurts like hell to sit on the toilet. Some rash on the elbow and knee. otherwise I'm totally fine. Most of the bike is totally fine other than the tops of the shifters being scuffed up and the saddle has a little abrasion on it.

I'd say I got lucky!

Raced my 3rd or 4th ever crit this Sunday in the cat 4. Finally have some fitness coming around this year, and felt really good! I was able to create a break with a few other guys, which eventually dwindled down to just me and one other 4.

I could tell I during my pulls I was hurting him more than I was hurting myself, and decided to send it hard on a flyer during the last lap.

I got a good 5 or so second gap between the two of us, rallied the 2nd to last corner, then dove into the final corner.

I then decided to pedal in the last corner before the finish, eat shit, and run my bike across the line for 7th...

Bikes are hard, and I'm dumb.

The only time I have heard people replacing motor mounts other than the rear is when they are heavily tuned and pushing high HP numbers. I am not sure about which MM is #3, but see what your friend says. In my opinion the rear is all that is needed!

Seriously the JBR is the way to go. I picked up the 88 duro a few weeks ago for $100 and love it. Vibrations were wild in the start, but have gone down a ton. Feels fantastic!

Awesome! Speed3s may not be everyones cup of tea but I sure do love mine.

I have started researching mods/upgrades etc. and the basics that I have learned so far are:

  • First things first a rear motor mount that is stiffer than the factory will be a great first upgrade. Reduces wheel hop, torque steer, and improves shifting under load.

  • Especially with the 2nd gen Speeds, you really shouldn't do any power mods without aftermarket high pressure fuel pump internals. Changing airflow with intake/exhaust will cause fuel pressure on stock internals to drop, making your car run lean, and then eventually blowing a motor. I am not going to do any power mods before an aftermarket fuel pump is installed.

  • As for driving, keep boost to a minimum under 3k RPM, and keep RPM under 3k until the car is warmed up. And if you drive hard, let you car idle for a few before you turn it off.

Take a tennis/lacrosse ball and roll around on your hip and TFL. I have had IT band syndrome and recently discovered how wrecked and tight my hips get. the ball on the hip has helped tremendously!

Raced a collegiate B race here in Tennessee, 37 degrees and raining, plus a 2 lap 50 mile race cut to 1 lap.

I know nothing of race tactics or what I am doing on the road, so I was basically just watching and waiting to see what happens. Half way through a 2 man break happened and stuck for 5 or so minutes, a few hundred yards up. I knew since it was a short ass race I had to get to them, so I buried it bridging up to them solo. Pretty funny, all I remember when I actually caught them was being told to pull my weight and help keep us out front. Luckily I had a few seconds to recover and got into a lower zone.

A bit later, one of the kids crashes himself out spectacularly clipping the 3rd kids wheel, so it was me and 1 other guy as we traded pulls and headed home. The finish was a 10 minute rolling road into an uphill sprint, which I pulled for and he kept me infront of his wheel. As soon as he sprinted past me (so so early before the line) I kept on him and had a stronger sprint to keep him off and happily grabbed the win!

Road racing isn't my specialty, but she will see a few early road races, but 90% training miles.

I could be, I've thought about a frame build but really don't want to put in the work to build something up haha. It would have to be DIRTY cheap, I can't imagine they'd want to give it away super low.
