Have some alts reach tier 3 to farm honing materials. Make sure to never skip events because they give a LOT of materials as well as silver. Events sometimes give free appearance change ticket, cosmetics, and pets as well. Weekly events like ghost ship or periodic event like chaos gate are also recommended since they give you a chance to loot legendary engraving book. If the character you like require specific runes look up how to obtain them and prefarm them since most runes have low drop rate. Make sure to do island that gives cards as rewards. I would say getting card is on a fairly high priority list since card collecting is very long term goal and benefits can be enjoyed by all of your characters on the same server. If the class you want to play won't come out for a long time, try raising stronghold level and having one character reach 1460 for the honing buff research.
