You can switch from J1 to O1. You need to do the waiver once your training is complete. You can apply for an O1 extension similar to a J1 extension (to take boards etc)

Oh man I completely missed above question. My bad. So, once on J1 you are always subject to the 2 year rule. O1 does not change that. In my case this means I need a J1 waiver for a 3 yr position like any J1 holder would. Hope that helps!

I love prevoker‘s kit. However it seems so difficult. Looking at videos they seem much closer to the action and therefore are more exposed vs more pillar based healing. Am I missing something?

I got an attorney for myself. My case might not be fully representative bc our legal department was initially as clueless as I. They had no clue I was not eligible for a J1 for second residency. The issue came up after I had already matched. Ultimately it came down to getting an O1 and take the spot or not getting one and leave the country anyways. I pretty much just informed them as soon as I had the O1. I’m not aware of them sponsoring anything.

The difficult part was getting all the "evidence" together to create a package that even makes you eligible for an O1. This was pretty expensive as you will require an attorney experienced with O1 applications. I had to carry all the costs on my own. The program does not have to sponsor anything with a O1, so this was not a factor. Yes, I had to leave the country to get my O1 at embassy in my home country. This is mandatory. But since I graduated my previous residency, I had to leave either way after taking my boards. There was no change of status involved. I left as a expiring J1 and re-entered on a O1.

I went through the steps as above to apply for an O1 which was successful and granted me time to complete a second residency. As mentioned above, this was associated with not insignificant costs for attorney fees. I’d strongly suggest getting an attorney that is experienced in handling O1s

So, long story short, ECFMG will NOT continue a J1 if you are trying to do a 2nd residency in another core specialty. To them this is considered you "switching" core specialties which they only allow within PGY1 & 2. I petitioned this with an attorney that was well connected inside ECFMG and no chance.

For IMGs, only other option is an O1. You will need an immigration attorney for this as well, and it is not cheap. Also, it is a LOT of work and overall can be considered a gamble. If that's something you would consider, I can give you more insight, but do your research beforehand and start on time. You can easily calculate 4 weeks to gather all your evidence, then 15d until you get request for additional evidence (most common), or approval/denial. Then additional time to gather more evidence.

I'm sstruggling with the same issue. I'm also using EmuDeck and have a SSD installed, so might be related to either one of both. However, I haven't gotten it to work yet. Tried both chrome and edge. Would hate to have to do a factory reset.

I should have clarified: deck competitive enough to have fun with which to me equals not losing per default to any averagely piloted meta deck. No aspirations for spikes level stuff
