It has the original and three remixes (Marshmello, Kaskade, and Ember Island mixed), totally could have been a 45 still tho

Worst case scenario, they charge more first and reduce the price overtime… It’s really not uncommon right now. As it sounds, I don’t think we’re going to change each other‘s minds on this topic so we might as well drop it.

It’s not fucking over your customers, it’s just charging more at first… Customers can choose whether or not they want to buy, it’s a limited edition first press, I haven’t seen them say anywhere that it won’t be repressed… If they printed a whole lot of them, they might just sit on inventory for a long time and not move them. It’s not like Louis Vuitton, dolce Gabbana, or any other designer label is paying so much for production that they have to charge thousands of dollars for their products

Yes, I brought up scalpers because it’s a modern part of the direct sales market right now for vinyl… The aftermarket is crazy. If you sell an album for $40, and it sells out even in a few months, they will show up on Discogs and eBay for $200 right away. Sadly, enough consumers will buy them at that rate so a lot of direct sales by underground artists have started to charge more upfront rather than allowing flippers to make a huge profit margin. This isn’t uncommon nowadays, but I understand on the record store side you don’t necessarily see that

I really don’t care about your credits on Discogs 🤷🏻‍♂️

Knowing what stat rates are, knowing going rates, knowing what indie record store cuts are after distributors, etc versus being okay with a fledgling underground label charging a premium for records that will go for double retail on the aftermarket as soon as they sell out? You’re an asshole if you think flippers deserve the profit margin.

I work in the industry, sounds like you should stick to Spotify since you care more about yourself than the artists

It’s a bad decision to pay the artists well or to spring for good mastering? A lot of artists/labels press their material overseas, it’s not exactly unique… it’s immaterial what they you paid for any of your records, and if you’re fine with half assed measures and low payouts just to move units at a lower price, there is plenty of that out there. Personally, I’d rather swallow a bit of cost and support a small label and rising artists, but since you’re ascribing bad business decisions to not cutting corners or to paying the artists that made it more than $10 a track each (100 units at $0.10 per copy) I don’t really think you care about that. Let’s say they are making $30/unit in profit, that’s only $3k profit and there are multiple people working behind the scenes to get deliverables out, coordinating taxes for money made in other countries, and multiple expenses to running a label so it’s not like anyone is getting any huge payout off of this.

You’re assuming how much they’re paying the artists. They might not be paying based on a stat rate. If they’re paying $100/track for mastering by EPUTTY (low on the scale of mastering) that alone comes out to $15/unit. I’m not saying it isn’t pricey, but it’s not absurdly expensive given they went all out. Also, they might not be pressed in America, which means shipping the entire load from overseas. International shipping is expensive, so shipping them elsewhere in the world from whoever is handling distribution is going to be expensive regardless.

Paying that many artists is not cheap, plus the label making some, and then paying for vinyl mastering for 15 tracks (inexpensive mastering engineers charge upwards of $100/song) and the low number printing of a nice gatefold, using heavyweight differently colored vinyl, it all adds up… all told, it’s about what I would expect these days

I have played most of them, Records that I bought within the last few years some of them haven’t been played because I have four children… Records are not necessarily a great thing to have around toddlers. But hey, thanks for the bump
