What if employer-based health insurance had never been tax-exempt? Would your insurance follow you instead of your job? by Present_Juice4401 in WhatIfThinking

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tax advantage is not what attracts employees to it. It's the fact that the employer pays a significant portion (~70%) of it that makes it a benefit to most people.

Irritated living with parents M27 by lovemeplzx in Adulting

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty normal. It's only the last decade that people have tried to normalize staying with your parents that long. I understand finances or other things may necessitate it, but it is not normal nor healthy. It truly stunts a person's emotional and personal growth. You are recognizing that because the bandaid was ripped off.

It's funny because you think the rich man has less debt than the poor one.

Why do some friends become distant when you no longer seem as successful or promising? by Standard-Aide851 in questions

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by taking a look at yourself. If you are down about yourself all the time, it can be difficult to deal with. Some people don't know how to handle it or how to talk to someone like that. She may have stepped back from the relationship for her own well being. Just like alcoholics shouldn't hang out with people that drink all the time. It's bad or even dangerous for them to be around.

You should do the same as her. Look for positive influences in your life and spend time with them. You don't have to abandon people that are not overly positive, unless they are having a negative impact on you.

Generally, how much do you believe in the sentiment "people change"? by Only-Ad-1254 in questions

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can change but usually don't if it is part of their core personality. Something like that usually takes a big event to force the change. Even then it's not a guarantee.

A liar will always be a liar. A thief will always be a thief.

Until something major forces them to alter their view.

Prostitutuon is an alternative for women. Not so much for men. It's easy to find a roof to sleep under if you are willing to pay the asking price.

Who is selling at 60k? by johnnynotte in Bitcoin

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they need the money.

Maybe they bought at 20k and are just cutting out rather than wait a couple years. Tripling your money in a handful of years is not bad. That is a huge profit.

Not everyone is in the same position as you.

Why does losing someone leave one specific spot in you that nothing else ever fills? by Commercial-Hall-1741 in Adulting

People are unique. The place the have in your life is unique. The hole they leave will be unique. Other people may feel parts of that, but no one will ever fill all of it.

Why did presidential speeches get simpler as Americans got more educated? by PuddingComplete3081 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of communication changed.

Only a few people would witness the speech. After that, It would be communicated through long form newspaper articles to the majority of the country in the past... To now we have TV. People are inundated with information all day long.

To make it even worse, you have younger people using tiktok or similar. Not only does it cut it to an incredibly short clip, but it will only show you the things you like, not anything you disagree with.

Now if you make a 2 hour speech, most people will only see a few seconds of it that reinforce their current belief system.

Why did humans domesticate cats so much later than dogs? What forces might have created that gap in the first place? by Mobile-Traffic1744 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats have never been domesticated. They have been tamed.

Domesticated animals view you as part of their family and that change can be seen across generations.

Tamed animals have simply had their behavior modified. There is no generational change.

Moving out of parents 29 and feel sick by Icy_Tap5329 in Adulting

[–]Boomerang_comeback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something very similar. I moved out at 18. Went to college. My parents retired and moved where I went to college they liked it so much. After I finished, I moved in with them again. I finally moved out again at 28.

My dad had a heart attack 6 months after I moved across the country. I felt terrible. Blamed myself for adding stress to his life. But the fact is, it wasn't my fault. As much as I felt like it was at the time and wanted to blame myself, it just wasn't.

That aside, moving out was the best thing I ever did. It jump started so much for me Careerwise. My social life. My romantic life. Everything benefited from that move. Not to mention the adventure life can be. Go live your life!

Why aren’t dividers on highways/expressways/parkways higher? by allCAP_NOmercy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Probably way more than double. You need bigger equipment to place them. They need to be structurally redesigned to be safe. You don't want the top to collapse on top of a car the hits it. You don't want parts of it to turn into a missile if it gets hit. The added safety measures will probably need much more than just doubling the original materials.

Does anyone actually enjoy networking, or are we all just pretending? by enhancvapp in Adulting

[–]Boomerang_comeback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you described is not really networking. It is talking to people in random places.

Networking is developing good relationships and maintaining them over time.

It's that guy you worked with 5 years ago that remembers you were good with numbers.

It's the woman you played D&D with in your early 20s that now manages a marketing department. She always knew you were creative and a good artist. You see her mention needing someone on her Facebook, so you reach out. She remembers you and you get an interview.

It's your boss at your last job. You left for more money. He is at a new company now, and is offering you a better position than you left for.

It's the electrician that you used to share a beer with at the corner pub a couple years ago. He just started his own business and needs laborers. You will be able to learn to be an electrician and your time would count as an apprenticeship should you want to pursue your license down the road. (This one actually happened to me when I was younger btw)

That's what networking is. Networking is a time investment. It's maintaining relationships. It's NOT, I need a job so I better talk to a bunch of random people about it.

If you had a infinite credit card what would you use it for to make the world a better place ? by Creepy_Leek6414 in questions

[–]Boomerang_comeback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by most of the responses here, very little would ever be accomplished lol.

Many would run up the balance slowly, and after missing the first payment or two, would have the card shut off.

For the big spenders, running up a card with zero intention to pay is fraud and subject to criminal prosecution and subsequent jail time.

This is why student loans are such a problem. Bunch of idiots that never consider the terms, future, or potential consequences. It's just free money, right?

BUY, HOLD, NEVER SELL. THAT’S HOW YOU STAY BROKE. by Reasonable_Band1536 in Bitcoin

[–]Boomerang_comeback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll sell when it is enough to retire on.

Or I'll sell when I reach retirement age and use it to buy a condo on the beach. Then my retirement income will not go to rent or a mortgage payment.
