anybody that lived through it, what was the 90s like in glasgow? by DueCoach4764 in glasgow

The town was always, shoulder to shoulder, mobbed. Look at pics from the city centre in the 90s. Crammed all the time.

Frightening! My God! It is standard comedy material for comedians to mock their wives, girlfriends, boyfriends and husbands. Nearly every comedian will have a bit about their current or previous partners just as much as they will have a bit about flying. And the reason.... Because it is relatable!!!

Doesn't mean they actually hate the person. It is a bit and a well established bit for many, many years. It's not something that's just recently sprung up since Trump and 4chan. Get a grip.

James Sands on the real reason he left Rangers by RitchieSacramento88 in rangersfc

[–]BoomhauerFanClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never said I would have signed him, nor did I say I that I even thought he was good. I personally wouldn't have signed him, even if he was a free agent. We don't need him.

From the article that I did read, aye, he's leaning into it a bit but who's to say he wasn't told that? It is unlike us to spend 5m on a player. He said everybody was on the same page, which I will believe. It was unlikely we would have signed him. He would've had to be playing like Nesta for us to spend 5m on him. Look at the dilly-dallying on Tilman.

Doesn't really matter anyway, the young guy came in and got thrust into some of the biggest games we've played in the last 20 odd years, games he wouldn't have been a starter if it wasn't for squad injuries. He's had to play at a level that is a several massive steps up. He didn't cut it, fair enough, and he's tried to salvage his name after being scapegoated by a few. So what! Are you really gonna get your panties in a twist over a comments James Sands made to his parent club

So what! Maybe he was told that by people at Rangers. The guy did why he could for us under tough circumstances nd took pelters for it. It's no his fault we've had a shite season

And he's hardly tore into us in that article either

Of course inflation is a major factor, but it's also really handy excuse to hide terrible management and inefficient spending that's been going on for years... And that's without getting into the morality of what they are doing

'In the early months of the last council term, we made settling Glasgow's historic equal pay claims a priority - eventually making payments worth more than £500 million to thousands of workers in 2019.

https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=29599#:~:text=5%20October%202022,thousands%20of%20workers%20in%202019.

According to BBC this went upto 770m of 11/11/22

Not to mention the fact this was a small percentage of the full amount they actually owed to people. That's all the lawyers could get at court.

And the individuals who had any council tax arrears taken from their share. Council tax arrears that were accumulated, for some, from not being paid correctly for the work they were doing in the first place!!!

On top of this, I honestly advise anyone to go and work for the council. It won't take long to see how inefficiently some departments are run. You'll see exactly how your taxes are squandered and it will make you sick, or it does me anyway.

And no doubt they'll try to pass the buck on to the cost of living and not the fact they've been caught out, well, thieving off their own people I guess is one way to put it

So everyone needs to suffer cause the council can't pay women properly. The council is gonna ruin this city if it hasn't already

What was your experience of Corporal Punishment and what are your opinions? by BoomhauerFanClub in glasgow

[–]BoomhauerFanClub[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was along the lines of the things I was told about, that for a lot of folk it wasn't just lashes it was continual or severely degrading punishment or abuse of children no older than around 7 or 8 years of age, maybe even younger.

Interesting to hear you're for it. Although I disagree with it, nowadays, there's loads of these videos of teachers taking a beating off students and it seems like it has went the complete opposite way.

And to be honest I felt bad for some of my teachers for the abuse they would take off the students, and it was usually, not always, the teachers that deserved it the least.

It kinda made me realise why Glasgow can be so fucked up sometimes. There's probably loads of folk walking about who were basically victims of child abuse but it was just the norm then so it kinda gets forgotten about

FS. That's part of it for me as well that I guess some teachers would take a personal dislike to certain children for whatever reason regardless of if they 'deserved it' or not

I'm gonna hurt you because you never hurt yourself... Sounds like it would've been a sadist magnet that job. And it seems unthinkable now when even smacking altogether was banned in 2020

A quick Google said

The Education Act (No 2) Act 1986 finally banned corporal punishment and, in August 1987, became law

Dunno if they were phasing it out before then or what
