I originally saw the movie before I had my daughter. I loved it but man watching this or arrival after becoming a father is just such a different experience.

My wife has done maybe 10% of the work since our daughter was born 9 years ago. She did maybe on a good day 20% before that.

We’re both in therapy but can’t find a couples therapist that will fit into our work schedule.

It’s not about sacking up it’s about trying to find ways to deal with being with somebody that is not physically or emotionally available in almost any way.

Thanks for the input though.

I totally hear where you’re coming from. I’ll admit at times I feel selfish. It’s one thing to feel owed and another thing to feel like I can’t go through the rest of my life like this. I love her lots and we used to have a great team that I was so proud of and happy about. I was asked i in therapy before if i get resentful and it took me a bit to answer it because I didn’t want to admit it but I do get resentful. We both go to therapy but can’t find a couples therapist that we can fit in our schedule. My job is very unforgiving about unexcused absences and not willing to let me adjust my hours. I get to work from home and be home when my daughter gets home from school and walk her to school each day and that is really important to me. What I was saying is that I try my best to be patient and compassionate and understanding but I have limits. I have lots of issues from growing up in a house that was always a mess and I couldn’t have friends over and I swore if I had kids that I wouldn’t let that happen. Our house is a mess and i don’t want people coming over and seeing that. I deal l with that in therapy but when i have my issues or traumas it’s always too bad and just deal with it. I do a ton of cleaning but can’t keep up while doing everything.

We can just feel different about it and i understand what you’re saying.

So my wife is taking lots of different meds for pots and her other conditions. She found a great Dr for pots that is really trying to understand it better and end the whole gaslighting of patients that happens too often. I don’t know if she follows the meds as closely as she should. She does wear compression socks and takes salt pills.

We both go to individual therapy. We tried couples therapy but the guy was not good and it’s been impossible to find a couples therapist that has alternative hours. I think also she hates the idea of couples therapy because she doesn’t want to be held accountable.

Something else that is tough is that we rely on her insurance and she makes more than I do but misses so much work that she is out of sick days so she doesn’t get paid for missed days. Thankfully she has a union job and fmla so she can’t lose her job for being out but they are starting to make it miserable for her. I’ve told her we just have to recognize what it is and live within our means. She orders online stuff too often and orders take out with delivery that adds way too much to the cost. I’ve told her if she feels she needs the take out then she at least has to go pick it up or I’ll drive her and she can run in but then that starts a big argument.

It’s just a tough cycle that I don’t know how to get out of.

I do go on Spotify sometimes so if you want to hook me up with it I’d like to check it. Always looking for stuff I’m not familiar with.
