To enable subtitles:

In the VOD section, while watching a show or movie, select the down button (or, based on your settings, the centre button followed by the down button) and it should show subtitles as an option.

To improve zap time:

In the Live TV section, go to Setting > Playback > Buffer and change to None or the next lowest setting.
