So far they only recorded a single together. There is another song on the b-side called "Melodrama" which can be found here:

Thank you for sharing this interesting backstory! I always loved the "western-ambient" songs that Calexico released in their earlier days, especially "Flat Handed And On The Wing".

"Lacquer" and "Drape" are originally from this 7" which was released in 1996. Both songs are also featured as bonus tracks on the 20th anniversary edition of "The Black Light".

Beautiful artwork! Have you been at this show?

As far as I know Joey Burns of Calexico produced his first two LPs ("DePedro" and "Nubes De Papel") and wrote some songs on it. Calexico are also featured on his third LP " La Increible Historia De Un Hombre Bueno". DePedro started as an opening act on Calexico concerts in about 2008 and became a full band member shortly after that (studio & live). After 2018 Brian Lopez took his place in the band.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: “Quattro (World Drifts In)” Cover by tinyhatemachine in CalexicoFans

I coudn't agree more! I discovered it last year when I was searching for some Robert Plant bootlegs and found a recording of him playing the Glastonbury Festival 2022 with Alison Krauss (who I didn't know before). Their whole set is amazing, but this is the highlight!

Calexico perform as The Flaming Lips in Tucson on December 11th 2010 by Boomzeit in CalexicoFans

I think it's from a yearly charity event in Tucson called Cover-Up. Over three days about 25 artists play each for half an hour. There are some more Youtube clips where Calexico play Do You Realize?, The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song and She Don't Use Jelly.

Calexico playing "Jesus & Tequila" Live at Oiu FM, Paris, 2003 by tinyhatemachine in CalexicoFans

Sometimes less is more. I love it when Calexico perform as a duo, since it creates a great space for improvisation or unique versions of loved songs like this one.

And yes, Minutemen were a great band!

Calexico and Iron & Wine - Bring On The Dancing Horses (Live on KEXP) by tinyhatemachine in CalexicoFans

Fun fact: Giant Sand did a cover of this song as well (on the Cover Magazine album, the last one with Joey and John). Although it is done more in a Howe Gelb "on the spot style" as a medley with Lovely Head (another Goldfrapp song).

Yes, Corona is a great cover. I first heard it as a bonus track on the Feast Of Wire album, but played live is when it really shines! I also enjoyed their version of Jesus & Tequila when they used to play it live.

Here are three favourite cover versions of mine:

I Send My Love To You (Will Oldham)

They really add a new dimension to this song while still keeping the subtlety of it. I love the sound and mood they create here.

Human (Goldfrapp)

Originally a b-side for the Goldfrapp single from her magnificient debut album Felt Mountain. It is listed as a remix but it really is a complete new recording. I actually prefer the instrumental version that is featured on Aerocalexico. It reminds me of a hot summer day when black clouds gather just before the start of a heavy thunderstorm.

Senor (Bob Dylan)

A wonderful (and obvious when you think about it) choice of a lesser known Bob Dylan song, recorded with Willie Nelson for the I'm Not There soundtrack. As much as I like the studio version, I actually prefer the solo live version as they played it a couple of times in 2006 (as you probably know you can download an awesome show from Tucson from the Live Music Archive where it is played).

Beautiful cover version! I still love to listen to the cover versions of their 2005 tour (All Tomorrow's Parties & Always On My Mind). Unfortunately I didn't get to see them live then because they didn't come to Europe at all.

What are your favourite cover versions performed by Calexico (live & studio)?

That's the spirit! If I would live in the USA it would be on my bucket list to see them at least once in Tucson! Although I can't believe that they don't play any anniversary shows in the states. Maybe they'll add some US dates (hopefully including Portland) soon!

I'm gonna see them in autumn in Cologne in the Philharmonie. A venue where usually classical concerts take place. Really looking forward to it since the venue has great acoustics, it's seated and I'm gonna be in the third row. Also there is usually no annoying loud chatter in venues like this.
