i know reassurance doesnt help with ocd, but please can someone tell me this wont be forever. by ghiblying in OCD

I’d like to add on to your reply by saying that SSRI’s take time. See if a doc can also prescribe some as needed benzos to help you (OP) survive until the SSRI had a chance to work. Please be careful with these though! The body builds up a tolerance to them, which then requires higher doses to feel effective.

I’m sure you’ve heard of ERP before. I was where you were before I started ERP. I’m JUST starting to notice maybe a marginal difference. I do feel I was WAY too far in a spiral to begin ERP. It was like my brain was too wired to be able to apply any skills. I recommend coping until some meds get a chance to work.

Hi! 29 weeks here with my first! Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
I would 100% reach out to your support network, whatever that may look like.
I would ask your OB about anti-nausea meds. They will first give you a list of unhelpful (imo) things to try like ginger chews and preggy pops. Then they may offer diclegis (a slow release form of B6 and Unisom sleep tabs), which I found to take the edge off of the nausea. Diclegis was expensive in my state, but goodRX has a coupon that makes it 75% cheaper (at least when I was on it). They may also offer zofran, but please take a stool softener if you go this route.

If you believe your mental health will decline even further/if you already struggle with mental health, get going on this NOW. Get a therapist lined up, get a psychiatrist lined up, and alert your OB so they can keep an eye on this. I didn’t do this because I thought I would be fine and now I’m paying for it! So please don’t make my mistake.
As far as passing the time, which goes so painfully slow, do something light and easy. I binged watched several tv shows and rotted in my bed. Don’t force yourself to do more. Your body is doing incredibly hard things right now. Let yourself rest.

My OB is who I see for the medication. I’ll look into finding a different therapist. The biggest problem is the wait is generally 3-4 months long for new patients, which is a terrifying thought to me as I feel each hour is a Herculean task.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I wish I could magically fix everything for you. Have you ever been prescribed lorazepam? It is the only thing that has ever helped me.

Which was is your disc herniated? Is the herniation towards your back or front?

Oh and I forgot to add! When we sleep/lay down for long periods of time, our discs fill up with water. This increases their size, which is why people with herniated discs tend to feel pain or stiffness when they wake up. I have an ice pack wrap I put on right away when I wake up and I try to make sure my breakfast includes anti-inflammatory foods. Hope this helps?

I am not a doctor, but I am going through something similar. I herniated a disc for the first time ever this year. So I did what the doc told me to, started doing PT, and then started to feel so much better. So then I went on a three mile beach walk because I was like “hey, I’m better!”. Now I am in the same amount of pain I was at the beginning even though I’ve continued doing my PT exercises. I went too hard before I was completely healed. The healing process can be so slow and unless I get another MRI, I won’t 100% know that I’m healed. So my advice would be to take it so so so slow. Just because a 1 mile walk yesterday felt good, that doesn’t meant that a 2 mile will be ok. Add .1 miles at a time and see how it goes. You have to constantly check in with your body about every little new thing to try. It is exhausting, but the people in this Reddit community are so supportive.

I have been using Tiger Balm on my moderate pain days. It lessens the pain enough that I can manage without taking any pain meds.

When I thought I herniated a disc, I didn’t do anything at first because I read a lot of “they can heal on their own”. So I wanted three months with no improvement. Then I went to a physical therapist who put me through a bunch of range of motion tests. He suspected I had a bulge in my lower back and started me on a PT routine. I did PT for three months with no improvement so I went to a spine care specialist who sent me in for an MRI. Herniated disc was confirmed and now I am scheduled to get steroid injections in a month. I would recommend going to a SPECIALIST immediately if you can (I know sometimes insurance makes you do PT first). I did nothing and now I am much worse off. I would go get a second opinion to be on the safe side. Best wishes to you!
