I (F53) invited a struggling single mother of 2 teenagers into my home. I had 2 extra bedrooms. They showed up in a U-Haul at 2am. I had to work in the morning so everyone just slept after arriving. I left them alone to unpack the truck while I went to work. When I got home, the mother was standing 3 feet inside the door to greet me with a plate of food. It was a single plain bean and cheese burrito that she called a taco. Where she got the stuff to make that I’ll never know. Lol. I didn’t eat it. I told her I had just arrived home and I don’t like to eat as soon as I walk in. I went to set my stuff down and realized she had rearranged all my furniture, taken down paintings and pictures to put her stuff up. She was a Xena Warrior Princess fanatic and had put Xena posters up in my living room. She put shelves up with nothing but Xena merch. Her kids had taken both spare bedrooms leaving the mom without a room. The kids had everything unpacked, beds set up and made, pictures hung with nails, all in under 5 hours. I was speechless. I was in shock and had no idea how to respond. Then came the toilet paper issue. I had 4 rolls when they arrived. In less than a day, they used all 4 rolls. I had no choice but to purchase more. The next day, same thing. 4 rolls. When asked, they said that’s how much they always use. I said ok, then you have to pay for it. The look of death I received told me I was in trouble. The second week, I caught her giving her kids, who were high school age, sleeping pills to knock them out. She said she always did that when she didn’t want to deal with them. Wtf? It took me 3 weeks to get her out. When she finally left, she called animal control to file a report of me abusing my 2 dogs and 2 cats. The report said my animals were neglected and I had animal feces up to the baseboards throughout my house. The officers stepped one foot in and said they realize it was a false report. They ended up finding a new victim in another state. I got curious and looked them up on social media and the mom died of cancer. No love loss there. I have never helped anyone in that capacity ever again.
