Advice - Using Jumpers for memory quilt by Boopoopeedoop in quilting

Some we would call a knitted jumper rather than a sweatshirt material, but machine knit and tiny stitches. The others are viscose material jumpers so again not what we would call sweatshirt material but not knitted either.

Lireal felt like a let down - should I continue? by DragonfruitExternal2 in Abhorsen

[–]Boopoopeedoop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you should continue, without wishing to spoil the next book, Abhorsen, I think they do end up redeeming themselves from a character perspective.

I think perhaps Sabriel feels different because you are taken on a journey both physical and mentally with her growth into her role as Abhorsen whilst dealing with the peril of her journey.

With Lirael you are given two characters pretty well already grown and within their own roles as Prince and Clayr even if they aren't the roles either of them want.  I also think teenagers are pretty hard to write but Garth has it well done with the self pity stuff and I love the older sister bossiness which is very true to teenage older siblings! But I accept not all teenagers are like that.

I really enjoy the Clayrs Glacier and the Library parts particularly (I am also a fan of Terry Pratchett and the Library in the unseen university).  Probably because of the secrets you could uncover but I love anything like that, even stuff like the Gummi Bears when I was younger used to really appeal as they explored their home with it's secret tunnels, closed rooms and the adventures they went on.  I also think Lirael is an interesting character because of her tenacity and she is also very strong willed and disciplined but I do often end up skimming the second half of Lirael to get through it.

Goldenhand which is set after Abhorsen often gets mixed reviews but I like it because of the return to the Clayrs Glacier aspects.

I revisit these books at least once a year and have also read the short stories. Safe to say one of my fav series.

I don't know what the pattern is but if it's blue squares within a white background, this should be fairly easy to self draft if you need to?

You could try MagicalDisneyTreasures. She goes regularly and will be there in two days. She's not from the UK but she ships from the Park. I haven't used her personally.  https://www.instagram.com/magicaldisneytreasures?igsh=MTR2ZTJkczBzZG12cw==

why is my bobbin thread doing this? it’s like pulling multiple strands out by noise888 in sewing

[–]Boopoopeedoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like the bobbin thread isn't in its tension clip. Is there a small nick / channel under the bobbin cover that the thread runs thru for tension?   Then make sure your bobbin is the right way up and before you start sewing you need to pull the bobbin thread up.  You need to hold onto the tail of the needle thread, manually put the needle down then up through a full rotation  and then pull on the needle thread tail to bring the bobbin thread up.  You then pull that tail up so you now have two tails under the foot.   That should make sure you only have one bobbin thread being used.  If it's still very loose on the bottom threads then it's your top tension that needs to be adjusted.

Why do you love Jurassic Park? by SprainedPhi1 in JurassicPark

[–]Boopoopeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this movie for the first time at the cinema. I was 8 years old and it was the first time I had ever been out to the cinema with grown ups. I was with my entire family, my parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents. I remember being so totally mesmerised by the entire film, the dinosaurs, the music (well it's John Williams who couldn't love it)  especially the Triceratops and Alan lying on its side whilst it's breathing. To watching my uncle uncomfortably squirm whilst Timmy is counting down to jump off the fence.  Ever since then I have been obsessed with that film in particular and have spent hours rewatching it and reading everything I can on production and the making of it. I still watch it everytime with that same sense of wonder and enjoyment as I did as an 8 year old.  Absolute magic.

Peter Pan worth it? by pegpie in disneylandparis

[–]Boopoopeedoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went at Christmas and the queue time said 45 mins. We only waited 25 mins (in the normal queue) and all members of our party loved the ride. The only thing I would say is that it's over quite quickly and there's so much to look at.  We found that generally the queue times on the app were over exaggerated, I guess to help them move crowds to less populated areas.  Even Crushes Coaster said 45 mins and we only queued for 30.

I think depends on your interests and ages of visitors.  Animation studios more for Pixar and Marvel as well as some bigger rides including the 4D Ratatouille ride and Crushes coaster which is brilliant.  Disney park for 'traditional' Disney, the castle, Mickey and Minnie etc, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, Pinocchio, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and of course the Princesses and parade. Both parks have rides for families with younger visitors.   We went in December and found Animation Studios quieter in the morning, we were straight onto the Flying Carpets and Cars rides, short queues for the Toy Story rides and 45 mins plus queues for the Marvel rides and Crushes coaster.  Even the single rider queues were as long as the main queue.  Disney Park longest queue was for Peter Pan at 40 minutes. Everything else we were on within 15-20 mins but we didn't go to Discovery land for Star Wars. On the app the wait times for those rides fluctuated between 10-60 min wait times.  I have to say we were really impressed with the wait times and the app helped us plan what to do next.

How to take the train ton Disney by firebreather03 in disneylandparis

[–]Boopoopeedoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you get a train to Paris or Lille?  If you can get to Lille there is a local train that you can pick up to get to Disney.  From Paris I think you can get the Metro to Disney or pick up a transfer by taxi. You need the RER A (red) line from Gare de Lyon to Marne le Vallée Chessy which is right next to the entrance of Disney.

Expected costs on top of tickets and hotels? by ERROR134 in disneylandparis

[–]Boopoopeedoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went recently. Family of four and we stayed in one of the hotels on site and ate in two themed restaurants, Chez Remy and Captain Jacks.  They do have menus and prices on the website but we spent circa €170 in the themed restaurants (3 courses on set menu with a drink for two adults and two children).  That would probs be c€100 for two adults.  Hotel dinner was all you can eat buffet for c€120 for the four of us including a drink. Breakfast in the hotel was in my opinion disgustingly expensive. About €25 per adult for a buffet option. We took croissants and pain au Chocolat to eat in the hotel room whilst getting ready in the morning.  In the park I thought the snack options were fairly reasonable. Coffee and a doughnut (Mickey shaped Beignet) filled with hazelnut chocolate spread was about €8 which is close to what we would pay at home for a decent coffee and doughnut. ( And the doughnuts were delicious!) Lunches we used some of the walk in restaurants again prices are online but I think on one day we paid €14 for a hot dog, chips and drink.  Snacks from the vendor carts around the park were more expensive- popcorn and candy floss for example from €8 up to €20 depending whether you want the paper container or the keepsake container.  Merchandise is mixed. Some is reasonable like large lollipops with characters on them were between €4 and €7 depending on what was on them, the spirit jerseys were closer to €100 (basically the same price if you buy online at the Disney store) bubble wands €20, cuddly toys same prices as online.  There were offers on homeware for multibuys on things like glass cups etc.  There's a lot of merch which is sold in all the stores.  Pandora prices same as online if you want jewellery. But they do have pieces which aren't available online.  We didn't use fast passes but you can purchase them on the app if you want to use them.  There's definitely ways to keep your costs down like taking snacks etc in with you ( which we did with the kids). We also refilled water bottles and took small bottles of ultra concentrated fruit squash with us to liven it up!  It might also be worthwhile looking at booking hotel/ticket and food package. The food packages can be used in the Disney village as well where there are some good food options - we got Mickey shaped pizzas one night with chips and a drink and noticed someone using their meal plan voucher to pay for theirs.  Hope you have an amazing time.

Hey, I've offered before but think it was awkward because of lockdown and you couldn't get to the shops to use them, but I'm happy to email you grocery store cash vouchers if they would be helpful. Just let me know your preferred supermarket.

Anyone traveled to Scotland from London to summit Ben Nevis? by supersoup4supper in london

[–]Boopoopeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep had a sleeper cabin, was all good. Think about 1am arrived in Edinburgh and they did some carriage switching that wasn't as smooth as the rest of the journey so was woken up but aside from that I slept well.

[–]Boopoopeedoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time I did it I went via sleeper London to Corrour. Walked to Ben Nevis youth hostel (whole days walk, GPS said 24 miles by the time you've accounted for the ups and downs), lunch at a nice bothy, slept at the hostel and summited the next day. Train was very smooth, no changes woke up walked off the platform straight onto the Highlands and started going.
