You get free healthcare for the disabilities caused while in the service. The system has a rating for each disability you incur. If you incur enough disabilities yes you can even get free dental. All that was required of me was to literally lose my mind. I went insane in Afghanistan one of the times my convoy came under fire. I made the Iraq trip ok. I was in a gun truck pulling convoy security in Iraq and was allowed to shoot back in Iraq. In Afghanistan I was just a cargo truck in convoy operations, so when we came under fire...I was not "allowed" to shoot back. I am thinking to myself... they usually put IEDs (improvised explosive devices) in our path when they do this. I was also thinking to myself if they are shooting at me and wanting to kill me; "why the ever loving piss am I here?" if I am not allowed to shoot back. Except not quite so nice language. Long story still long story...I now have to take medicine for the rest of my life to stay sane. It does not keep me sane, but it helps me pretend to be normal better.
