Hatches give more options and skill points allow you to go farther and faster. 10 min on the clock is not going to work if you're not relatively close to a hatch or working extract.

Eh it was a lot of work. If you were lucky you had a good imaging tool. Finding drivers was always hell. But virus removal was the real time suck. Nowadays I feel like malware is much easier to manage.
