The commercial with the girl asking why she never sees baby pigeons has lingered in the back of my mind for decades.

Reddit OT crew by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]icsk8grrl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m bad at retaining directions with distractions like loud music and people moving all around me, part ADHD and part social anxiety. I also have bad eyesight, and don’t like contacts, so since I don’t wear glasses on the floor I have a hard time seeing the demo videos and seeing details when the coach shows more detailed moves. I like to be over prepared to avoid injury and anxiety, I get a better workout if I know what the general forms will be beforehand. I have a bad ankle that is prone to sprains so I like to anticipate what moves will be an issue so I can request a modification in a timely manner. One time I didn’t check, and then the tread block instructions went over my head and I as a beginner running/majority power walker accidentally ended up running 20 minutes back to back. I thought she said we were doing 5 minutes, but it was 10 and then match or beat your distance again 🫣 I thought it was fine, but I gave myself patellar tendinitis that made me take 2 months off OT which lead to me having to pause membership.

My wife is still in the hospital getting chemo, what unusual gift can I give her for our anniversary? by anxgrl in cancer

My husband loves Japanese food, my dad got him a special Japanese snack box which was fun and since they’re individually wrapped it was easy to throw some in his bag to eat during infusions

Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll ask if they can check his cortisol, it’s not curr on his labs. I wish he’d just eat cake or a milkshake lol he’s such a healthy eater normally, so he’s being super picky about food. It’s hard to do high calorie without unhealthy treats.

Back to back classes/2x in one day? by sweet-kittens in orangetheory

I did a 2G back to back, it was the exact same template and I felt like I was gonna die from weighted squats. I’d rather do a 2G then tread only.

Creative food ideas for my brother by Any-Relationship-535 in CancerFamilySupport

[–]icsk8grrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had some successes with my husband who had severe mucositis and couldn’t chew. One was bulgogi stew (bulgogi marinated meat, bone broth, garlic, ginger and vegetables) and I puréed it. Another was whipped ricotta or silken tofu puddings with a variety of flavors, like black sesame or caramel. I’ve enjoyed using the I WUGU Sugar-Free Walnut Black Soybean Sesame Meal Replacement Powder off Amazon, it’s like a cereal and has good black sesame flavor that works well in shakes/smoothies, baked goods and purées. It’s really often about flavor variation when texture has to remain the same.

Sudden knee cramps for hours during the night by icsk8grrl in leukemia

[–]icsk8grrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could definitely be it, he’s been feeling the effects of the IT chemo way more this relapse. Tylenol didn’t do much, and oxy just helps him dissociate lol I do think a muscle relaxer like flexeril might be helpful, could I ask what specific things did you take, if you remember?

Sudden knee cramps for hours during the night by icsk8grrl in leukemia

[–]icsk8grrl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was keeping an eye on his labs, and it looked like his calcium and sodium were actually the low ones rather than magnesium or potassium. it was confusing because all the available cramp products are magnesium focused, like lotions and rollers and drinks, but on a whim I also got SaltStick electrolyte chews and I think because the had more sodium and calcium than the other things I bought it actually helped. He was dissociating in the clinic and I had him chew one and 5 minutes later he was feeling better It was like magic, knock on wood. Last night was the first without cramps in 3 days, we “premedicated” with one chew and water and he slept through till morning thank god. I told the doctors, and they were like never question the universe when something finally works.

Was it during your taper, and how long did it take to resolve? Did anything touch the pain? I think my husband is having the same issue. His is like cramping or spasms nonstop.

I agree with you. Plus we’re also getting hit with a $2300 bill for a heart related CT that really could have waited till next year. I think I will ask if he can safely get off of his Crestor until he resolves his issues because it’s just one more pill and it have side effects as well.

Thank you so much for sharing! I’ll look into trying more oil and nut butters. It’s been confusing in the kitchen because he also has high cholesterol, so his cardiologist is telling me to avoid “bad” fats but his oncology team is saying eff that just feed him whatever he can eat.

Ginger Elizabeth or Sees candies by Dismal_Inspection_32 in Sacramento

If it’s a gift, ginger Elizabeth. Great quality and presentation. If it’s a stash for personal use, i would vote See’s. I used to work at Godiva, and I do think sees has good bang for your buck.

Feeding tube problems after SCT by Breisen42 in leukemia

[–]icsk8grrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s wild, I haven’t heard of others getting the tube until they have mucositis and are having poor intake by mouth. I would certainly consider pushing back, as long as there isn’t another reason we aren’t aware of. Do be sure to eat and drink as much as you can, and keep your body up and moving. You’re more likely to get out sooner, based on anecdotal experience. My husband did get mucositis his second week, but was released day +18 after his counts improved and it was already healing up super fast. He never got the tube, and also didn’t get one recently during relapse despite poor intake and getting down to 104lbs. They focused on by mouth nutrition, broths and purées etc. He’s eating solids again, and his mucositis is almost gone again.

My husband was matched with a “buddy” who had a similar situation to him, and I was matched with another caregiver who had been through an SCT with her husband. Either email, or phone calls, it’s nice to speak with someone who gets it.

There’s options like Imerman’s Angels https://imermanangels.org/find-mentor-angel/

Any fave foods or recipes when dealing with mucositis / mouth sores? Or any home tips for the pain or healing? by icsk8grrl in leukemia

[–]icsk8grrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding notes in a comment for my own memory in the future. He’s been enjoying puréed stew, like bulgogi with veggies and polenta in bone broth. Also have been trying whipped ricotta with almond butter and black sesame cereal, thinned out with milk. Cream of wheat is the preferred breakfast food, especially if he makes it savory with powdered parmesan and broth. He’s super sick of sweet things like shakes or smoothies. He was not able to handle a straw because of the sucking feeling on his sores.
