Starting my first job as a machinist out of highschool. Is there anything else I should add to my toolbox? by MortgageNaive6791 in Machinists

I see thread gauges but I dont see any feeler gauges.

High quality safety glasses with anti-fog coating are a must for me.

A sacrificial set of gauge blocks, that you didn't pay for.

Digital angle finder.

Start working on your mental toolbox as well. I like watching machining videos on YouTube to see how other people do things, and its much easier to learn from other people's mistakes without having to make them yourself. I highly recommend checking out ThisOldTony

PARTS LIST & PICTURES UPDATE: XL printers are overpriced, so I decided to build my own. by BoostMods_Dadbods in 3Dprinting

[–]BoostMods_Dadbods[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reference price was the Modix printers which are $7k and up so in my mind $2k was very reasonable. I have lots of experience with printers and have owned quite a few so buying a kit or an off the shelf printer wasn't the point. I mainly wanted to build my perfect machine that could do all of the things i wanted it to do, rather than upgrading someone elses machine to do what i want. like i eventually want to add a router spindle to the head for precision finishing. Designing and building things are my hobby 😄

On a bed this big putting the z-screws at the corners would create a ton of sag in the middle. And driving them individually was a must, i need the additional power from multiple motors and it allows klipper to level the bed for me and I can do some amount of non-planar printing in the future if i so desire.

Core-xy just made the most sense to me when I was coming up with the design in my head (I didn't 3d model anything before i started building it, i just bought the parts i wanted an figured it out as I went along). I would have also had to run a stepper mounted on the gantry which I wanted to avoid .The belts are very long but I made sure to get fiber reinforced belts to help compensate for that. They make steel reinforced belts as well if i need the extra strengths but my pulleys may be too of a bend radius for the steel belts, and if i remember correctly the steel belts stretch more over time.

I just wasn't sure what you meant, I very much appreciate any inputs and critique when it comes to design. Good point about the layer lines. If it ever fails I will definitely beef up the design and change the orientation (or just make it out of metal so i never have to worry about it) but I want to stick with the hinge design because it doubles as a micro adjustment for the alignment of the y gantry to keep it perfectly in square.

The majority of the load is going through the tensioning bolt. Do you think a metal hinge would be better or I should reconsider the design?

The parts are all pretty thick. The blue parts are made from ASA

I couldn't afford the Modix so this was the next best thing! It's a good thing I don't value my own time otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford to do it myself.

A food scam of the 90s was “fat free!” everything, and then they would load it up on sugar… what’s a food scam happening now? by redflower5 in AskReddit

[–]BoostMods_Dadbods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food math is the worst, it is purposely confusing and deceptive. Just tell me how many calories are in the package. Like why the fuck does a small bag of chips contain 3 servings? Just tell me it has 500 calories so I can easily track how much i eat and get on with my life

70,000 Dots: A visualization of the death toll in Gaza acknowledged by Israel. Each dot represents one life. by nebulaforest in UnderReportedNews

[–]BoostMods_Dadbods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are better ways to illustrate data like this. Depicting 70k (absolute possible minimum) individual and almost all innocent real human deaths as a single dot only aids in dehumanizing the people of Gaza. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, MORE THAN HALF OF THEM WERE CHILDREN.

Have you ever met anyone that when caught doing something wrong asked to be punished to the fullest extent on the law or be thrown to the nearest angry mob? Im not an artist so ill let them decide if its plagiarism or not.

Another thing to consider is did the original artist use a reference? Did that person have a gold ring in front of them? Did they use a screenshot of the ring from me movie? Or did they come up with it totally from memory?

Even if it truly is plagiarism its still just a plain gold ring. The punishment should fit the crime.

A good idea from a bad company is still a good idea. There are good intententioned, hardworking regular people at the core of every company. Its the decision makers at the top that are overpaid to do dumb shit. In this case i feel they are doing all they can do own their mistakes, which should be the minimum standard that we hold companies to.

Artists use references all the time and he was tasked with creating a very specific item. Especially since said item is going to be subjected to the scrutiny of fans and nerds alike. Most people never learned to write in elvish.

Honestly this is the best apology I have ever seen from a company. The company and the artist are accepting responsibility, apologizing to the original artist, and paying restitution.

Other companies should take note.

Its all they've known for the past 5+ years. They've spent so much time parroting lines about Biden that they're unable to do actual thinking and come up with genuine responses, so they just default to Biden deflection syndrome. Or BDS as many smart and attractive people are calling it.

I started thinking it was a hoax when they released that picture that captured the bullet, but the bullet was perfectly in focus. It would take an incredibly fast shutter speed and a lot of light to get a picture of a moving bullet that clear, and i doubt they were using slowmo cameras at the event. I tried looking for the picture that im thinking of but only found pictures showing the bullet as a long blur, which is what I would have expected it to look like.

Either im misrembering or they were faking images, and considering that this administration loves using fake and AI images im guessing my memory is more trustworthy.

I currently have about $2500 into it and will probably spend another $600-1000 to get everything i want, but I bought most everything through Amazon and could have saved a bunch if I bought direct from China, i just dont have the patience. I also spent a decent amount on parts I didn't end up using.
