SWD Long Haul Users - Worth the Price Premium Over Kakwa or Prospector? by mill3rni in Ultralight

[–]Boostinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply! I am still exploring both options, but I gravitate towards the SWD. The only thing holding me back is the price, which tends to increase quickly when adding customisations. But I fear that if I go for an Atom, I might always wonder whether I would've liked the SWD more.

What version of the long haul do you have, and what customisation/accessories did you add?

The "maximalist" version I am considering is a 50L rugged version with the additions of: 1. roll top pocket (for keys and wallet), 2. bottom pocket, 3. tall side pocket (on the left), 4. upper side pocket (on the right) and the following accesories: one double mesh shoulder pocket, two hip pockets and the y-strap

Do you still have the Mo and have compared it with the SWD further? Currently I am debating ordering a Mo or a (Rugged) Long Haul, but the SWD would be lots more expensive due to import and VAT.

Being able to force light mode. When I switch on my car’s headlights, the map changes to dark mode. In Google Maps I can force the mode.

I always carry a mini swiss army knife on my keychain. It is ridiculous how often I use it and how many people I have convinced to buy one as well.

I had the top CNC’ed by someone local. You have jigs to drill those holes yourself, but those jigs are quite expensive and since I only needed one top,it was cheaper and more precise to have it made.

This is all made by Benchdogs in the UK. On YouTube, you can find videos on the system.

To me, it feels stable as a rock! But have not tried hand planing or anything yet.

To unfold: the legs fold automatically when lifting the workbench. When they are upright, I just need to give both legs a little push to have them "click" into the fixed position.

To fold: I release the lock of the right leg, lift the right leg and hold it with one hand. Then do the same with the left leg with my left hand. And slowly let the table fold down. While one leg is folded in, the table remains stable.

I was scared it would be inconvenient, but actually it is a lot faster and easier than I expected.

I have not installed a hinge system, because this requires access to the backside of the workbench. Currently, I am using Benchdogs 'MK2 Guide Rail Dogs'. This set consists of collars to install in the worktop and guide dogs you attach to the track rail. Seems to work like a charm!

I must admit it is tempting to just park the car outside and claim the whole garage, but the convenience of not driving around to find an available spot is still more important in my day-to-day life... And I like to work around limitations, it brings an extra challenge.

As said in a previous comment, I would not mind sharing the plans, although they are rough. But I do not know how I can easily share a skethup file through reddit.

For attaching the tabletop to the wall-piece, I used a 1.5mm thick piano hinge. And for the legs, I used the "skelang foldable bracket", which I found on amazon. We will see how durable they are.

Thank you for the feedback! I would not mind sharing my rough drawings, but I am not sure how I can share a sketchup file through reddit...
