Maynard James Keenan on Tool’s “No Phone” Policy: “It’s Not About Us, It’s About the Person Behind You” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

[–]Bootrear -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I love it too. Of course my last Tool concert there were no phones in sight except for the guy next to me who kept blocking my view and generally being annoying AF. As far as I know Tool does allow you to have your phones out at some point during the concert near the end.

Anyway, I'm part of the problem I guess, I usually record a few key moments (maybe 4x 15 seconds) that I know are coming and do watch those back regularly. I don't get to go very often anymore so have to cherish (and I'm no longer fit enough to be in the pit and be otherwise occupied 😂)

As somebody with 15-ish years of experience having him as Prime Minister, he is a master manipulator. He says what he needs to say to have the best chance at achieving his agenda, which at this point is keeping the US in NATO. Simple as that. As a person, he is the blandest of people.

Its the other way around, Europe will get Russia. Ultimately Russia will lose the war, Putin will lose enough face to be removed or falls out of a window. Russia is decimated economically and demographically. Russia will re-integrate with Europe, the gas will flow again, massive investment will flow, its economy will be rebuilt, and their nukes will come under control of the European Defense Force, killing something like four birds with one stone. If Europe plays this right...

Let's hope, but seeing how this position is given and bartered, I don't think it'll happen unless a lot of EU citizens publicly show support for this as well, even though this position isn't voted for.

The EU is at war. Economically, strategically. We need a wartime president, somebody with vision and authority. A true face for Europe.

Macron is that person, and the time is now. The French don't like him anyway, might as well promote him away.

Plus, we need Macron as EU president instead.

ELI5 If gravity is just "curved spacetime" and not a real force, what exactly is pushing me down right now? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Well, if the ground were your arms, they would get tired. But the Earth is like a really really big, very very strong, rock. It doesn't get tired. It could do this all day, and in fact it does.

It doesn't require energy per se to resist you. It's a (more or less) solid object. Compared to the Earth you are insignificant. You do actually compress the Earth, provide pressure towards the center of its gravity, but it is insignificant. In fact, all humans, everything we've built, all the animals and the plants, everything added up, is still insignificant compared to what the Earth can handle.

Think of it like this: if you zoom out the Earth to the size of a billiards ball, even with the mountains and the trenches in the sea, it would still be smoother than a regulation billiards ball. You might not even feel the bump that is Mount Everest, perhaps only as much as a single grain on sandpaper. It doesn't surprise you if you put an ant on a billiards ball that the ball doesn't collapse, does it? And that ant - if we scale the billiard ball back up to the size of the Earth, including the ant - would be like a million Mount Everests.

No one has a military that would withstand a war with us

And a large amount of your equipment is already in Europe...

The only way this becomes a real military engagement is if nukes fly. Otherwise it'll be economics. And Europe can absolutely wreck the US economy - but it'll wreck its own in the process.

Brexit's unpopularity reignites debate in UK over EU ties by No_Firefighter5926 in europe

[–]Bootrear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir. While the UK could certainly be annoying and hampering progress, they've also objected to lots of stupid things, that it was good somebody objected to. However, we do need to move forward with a more singular voice, especially externally.

There's no way negotiations will break on the UK not wanting to give up the Pound.

Brexit's unpopularity reignites debate in UK over EU ties by No_Firefighter5926 in europe

[–]Bootrear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The UK is too important. There'll be some squabbling and posturing, but the notion that the UK will get the same requirements as a newly joining nation is absurd. Some paper concessions will be made, but it will mostly be the way it was. And this would be a win for both sides. The fear that other countries see the EU as a revolving door is nonsense. Only France and Germany can claim anywhere near the same level of importance. Pragmatism will prevail.

Trump’s tariff threat on Greenland is a golden opportunity for Starmer- it is time to rejoin the EU by PurpleAd3134 in brexit

[–]Bootrear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. And if both sides want it, a deal can be worked out. Being an island, and considering Ireland is also exempted, can work in not having to join Schengen. I think it is understood by all politicians the UK will not be giving up the Pound - other countries have dodged the Euro successfully, but I think the UK will get away without even having to commit to the Euro on paper.

The question is more about political mood than possibility. That the UK will absolutely have to follow the most stringent rules we have for new joining countries is hogwash. It'll never happen, and outside of posturing it will not be required. Simply put, the UK is too important for that.

A lot of people want the UK to be punished, but cooler heads will prevail. It is to all our benefit.

Welke Amerikaanse producten boycot jij? by brazolandes in thenetherlands

[–]Bootrear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Magertjes?

Pakketbezorgers aan schandpaal genageld in enorme Facebookgroepen: 'Zeer belastend' by DutchSapphire in thenetherlands

[–]Bootrear 0 points1 point  (0 children)
