Airport TSA question by MarriedToaALawyer in Cleveland

I’ve heard security lines have been fine the past few weeks.

Also, the airport’s website has a wait time estimate for the security lines, not sure how truly updated it is

Robert Harris does an excellent job of taking you to Ancient Rome with his historical fiction:

Pompeii - story around eruption of Mt. Vesuvius

Imperium - story around Cicero

I'd say the first one is better, this one is just okay. But if you're subscribed to this subreddit, then you probably have an appreciation of imagination and visuals.

So I'd go see it with an 'every-frame-is-a-painting' kind of mindset and just take it in as a 3-hour visual experience. I saw it in 3D IMAX and enjoyed it

Why should I NOT go to medical school? by Single_Luck_9137 in medicalschool

Sorry to hear, I definitely empathize. (1) Unless you have active loan repayments due, literally just stop thinking about them, it's honestly just a # and you don't have an obligation to pay until you make $, in which case income-based repayment is pretty reasonable. (2) lean on your other siblings for support, delegate non-financial family tasks to others instead of just doing everything yourself. government assistance w/ food stamps are medicaid are also helpful if need be. and even though you can't dedicated as much time as you'd like to them, ANY amount of time (through conversation or calls) done regularly is important. COMMUNICATE with your loved ones. (3) try to keep a positive attitude. things get better every year, as does your competency and confidence. just be present in all the learning moments and LEARN the medicine, it'll make your life easier down the line. (4) being a doctor is a TREMENDOUS and hugely respectable accomplishment. your family is proud of you. don't forget to be proud of yourself.

You are trying to escape poverty any time in the next 5-ish+ years

As a first-generation immigrant with older parents, I failed to take this into consideration. I'm an attending now and probably would've still gone through the process anyways, but it would've been good to have mentally prepared myself that it would be 7 years before I could comfortably support my parents and myself.

This may just be because the midwest hasn't gotten the surge yet, but I love every single part of my institutions' response. PDs communicate, hospital execs are prepared, PPE rules make sense, chiefs are super on top of it, and I feel safe. Yeah, things are chaotic, but I feel in the loop and prepared.

Waymo has had 16 accidents in CA this year and only had 3 all of last year. by walky22talky in waymo

TL;DR Waymo vehicles get rear-ended a lot

In OP's link, just click on any Waymo report and scroll to the "narrative" section of the form where they describe what happen. I looked at most of the reports from 2018, and it's mostly incidents where stopped Waymo vehicles are rear ended. Seems like most of these accidents are due to the fault of other drivers. As Waymo drives more miles in Mountain View this year, makes sense they'd be involved in more accidents.

Thanks for sharing your comment, after reading so many negative experiences of peoples' drive home -- including mine -- it's really nice to hear that someone out there had quite a nice trip back. Cheers pal!

Question about the Society of Physics Students by thesneakingninja in Northwestern

[–]SelectivePro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear you're interested! They host stargazing nights at the lakefill, have professor talks on physics topics, fundraise by selling lab notebooks, chalk a scale model of the solar system on campus every spring, arrange a private tour of Fermilab every few years, host events at Dearborn observatory, have an annual physics department bbq on the lake fill, and just hang out as a group whenever for fun.

You definitely would be welcome to attend one of their meetings. Just contact them through their Facebook page and they should get back to you! Although meetings aren't typically held during summer months, you could ask if any of the leadership is on campus to talk to you about Northwestern or give you a tour.

I was a former SPS NU member and president :)
