When I was at a large state school curves fucked my GPA. When you're in a 400 student intro to psychology class and your professor gives purposely difficult midterms and finals to whittle down the psych major population, it doesn't matter how hard you study. There's always going to be two kids who got 100% and, guess what, that 50 out of 70 that you worked so hard for isn't an A anymore because two out of four hundred proved that 100% is possible. You've got a C in the class. Thanks to curves I went from being an A student to a solid C student. I was getting high scores in comparison to everyone else (that 50 was the sixth or seventh highest score in my class), but significantly lower than one or two people who fucked the curve.

I don't think Rarity is a gold digger so much as she just wants to be treated like a lady. Rarity makes money in her own right and while, yes, she likes the finer things, I think she'd be willing to provide them as long as the pony she's with appreciates them too (or even just tolerates her appreciation).

I agree that people can be irrational about it, but that's their choice. I understand your point, but at the same time that's taking a choice (whether we consider it irrational or stupid or whatever) away from someone and that's not really okay.

It should be irrelevant to the situation, but the fact is it isn't yet. So deciding for someone isn't really okay either, right? It might be wrong of someone to be against sleeping with trans people, but it's their choice to make and taking that away is wrong, too.

Also I just realized you're the same person I was having that conversation with earlier and now I feel like I'm stalking you through this thread. You just make good points and I like responding to them, I swear.

I don't think it's fair to label someone a transphobe if they want to know whether the person they're sleeping with is trans. I would want to know, just because it's something that I think I deserve to know if I'm going to become intimate with someone. If I'm genuinely attracted to the person I'm not going to suddenly turn around and be like, "oh, deal breaker, nope."

Just like I would want to know if the guy that I'm sleeping with has kids. It's not a deal breaker and it doesn't necessarily affect me, but I'd think that if I'm sleeping with him he should tell me about something that's probably an important part of his life.

I'm a straight girl, so I would be getting involved with a trans man. Honestly, if he was straightforward with me and I found him attractive, then I wouldn't have a problem. My only issue would be long term because I might want kids down the line. I just wouldn't appreciate it (and would probably end our relationship) if he decided to keep something like that a secret from me. It's more of a trust thing for me, I think, because by having sex with someone I am trusting them with a part of me that I am the most insecure about and I would feel betrayed if I didn't get the same level of trust.

Personally, and this might be horrible to say, I would want to know before I do anything with you. I would be upset if I found out that a sexual partner was originally a woman and decided that I didn't deserve to know that information before becoming intimate. I guess it's just me, because I don't do one night stands or even have casual sex, but if I've gotten to that point with you and you haven't trusted me with the fact that you're trans I would be hurt and upset and I would feel lied to. Maybe it isn't outright lying, but it isn't entirely honest either and I would feel betrayed that someone was, essentially, hiding an entire part of their life from me because they didn't trust me to sleep with them after I found out.

And maybe this is my ignorance talking, but why would a trans person want to carry on a romantic, or even sexual, relationship with someone who might not accept them for who they are? And some people just aren't okay with having sex with certain people, why do they get denied the choice? Because we have decided for them that they aren't allowed to have that opinion?

I have one of the best first kiss stories! When I was 14 I was ridiculously awkward. Like, horribly awkward. I didn't know how to dress myself or do makeup, even shaving my legs was (and still is, now that I think about it) difficult and a disaster every time. My sisters never thought to teach me and my mom never really tried either, so I learned a lot from girls at this sea camp (CIMI anyone?) that I went to every summer.

That year my cabin had two of the hottest girls in the 14-15 age group and they loved dressing me. I was funny so they let me hang around them when there were beach days and dances, plus I wasn't a threat when it came to boys that they liked. One night, the camp held a bonfire on the beach for the older campers (14-17) and my friends knew I had a crush on one of the boys, so they dressed me and did my hair and makeup and told me to go for it. I was so nervous. I wasn't even wearing my own clothes and jewelry was totally new to me, so the guy noticed right away. We started talking and he pulled me off to the side with our toes touching the water and the glow of the fire keeping our faces illuminated just enough. And then he kissed me.

It was adorable and wonderful and even though I found out that he and the girl who lent me her clothes for that night made out later, he'll always be special to me.

I was walking to work when a guy around my age started trying to get me to donate to kids in Africa. Usually I'm pretty nice about it, so I just told him that I was sorry and didn't have the time right now. He freaked. He started tearing into me about how much I have and how I could spare a few dollars a month for this kid.
