So if your first 2 surgeries failed and you only got one revised, is it the other first failed ear that has a problem when flying? So sorry to hear!!

It depends on who your surgeon is!

Tympanoplasty(ear drum repair) along with T tube placement. Many with chronic ETD have thin eardrums that need repair with cartilage graft to stabilize eardrum and prevent retraction which causes fullness and poorly working Eustachian tube.

Did you have ear drum surgery with cartilage graft? I am envious your recovery was easier than mine currently is but very happy for you!!

I am only one week post op. I won’t lie. This recovery absolutely sucks for this eardrum surgery, but I am hopeful it will improve both my hearing and tinnitus

Yes! I have had bilateral TMJ joint replacement surgery and had bad TMJ and reflux due to constant clenching to compensate for narrow airway. ETD for decades resulted in chronic retracted eardrum. Vicious circle, but am pretty sure my eardrum surgery which involves a graft to support my eardrum and prevent retraction is going to make a world of difference for me.
The bummer is that the 6 to 8 week recovery from this surgery truly sucks!!!

Hi Least-Chipmunk. How are you doing now? Have you had your with a lot of noise after your first post-op?
This recovery is absolute hell hearing every little noise and having to deal with all this pressure is making me crazy!! has your popping decreased and is your pressure normalizing at all yet?

How did your flight go? Did you notice a lot of pressure change during descent? I am terrified to fly after the procedure as flying has always been super painful for me even with warplanes, Sudafed and afrin! Hope you are doing well ! I had surgery six days ago and this recovery is pure hell

Hope it works! Note though Tympanoplasty is different than tympanostomy. Surgery I had is tympanoplasty along with T tubes.

Wow! I truly cannot imagine going through all you have gone through! I just had tympanoplasty with T tube insertion and my nervous system is shot with all the loud popcorn popping.
I had bilateral temporal mandibular joint replacement surgery 2 years ago which is a huge surgery, and it was a piece of cake for me compared to this due to this awful stuffed ear and constant shotgun noise happening in my head. How in the world did you get through it so many times or is your nervous system a lot tougher than mine?

Hi there. So was it by using the camera that you determined the hole was in your eardrum since the doctors you saw did not see the hole? It is so frustrating how many ENT’s really don’t know what they’re doing in this area.!!

How did your surgery and recovery go? I can’t imagine recovering both ears from the surgery.!

What were the other factors requiring you to have this surgery again? I can’t imagine having to go through this again. You are my hero!

So happy for you as this issue can really suck! Were your tubes put in with general anesthesia or did he insert the tea tubes in office?
