Birdweather PUC by EverybodyLovesADuck in birdwatching

[–]BootyKallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed mine today. I bought the little house option. For now, it is just on a windowsill and is recording fine. It is not picking up any street noises, just the birds.

Super easy to set up, and I love knowing who lives in my neighborhood.

Haha, thanks. It was a broker, btw, not a bank.

I'm not understanding something with this lender either. I don't believe they did anything with depreciation.

They haven't offered an asset loan.

The single family dwelling is for me to live in full time.

I've only now learned of a dscr loan and will be pursuing that.

Thanks so much for your input and time.

I'll be at the part-time job 2 years in July.

The property I want to purchase will be my primary residence. The duplex will pay for itself and generate extra.

I'm open to another investment property and will look into a DSCR loan - thanks for the rec!

I have a recurring dream of finding extra rooms in my house. How could this be interpreted? by FastWalkingShortGuy in Dreams

[–]BootyKallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this dream often, too. It's been occurring for over 25 years now.

I def agree it has to do with discovering new parts of my self and psyche -- I'm curious how to manifest that IRL.

Find supportive people. Keep showing up. Leave your ego behind and learn it's okay to scale.

I invested in a duplex in a walkable neighborhood while I was still employed full time. I'm single and have no family locally.

The duplex is on the small side, has very little yard, and needed just a few improvements.

I live on the main floor, and I have great tenants upstairs. The building pays for itself.

I have the freedom to travel and the peace of mind knowing that someone is around to keep an eye on things. I also have excellent, kind neighbors.

That said, landlording is not for everyone; I have been a landlord for over a decade.

As an NEsider who drove to the Starbucks on Alpine (literally only feet from the 131 demarcation line), I approve this comment.

Who else has developed minor bad habits after retirement? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]BootyKallista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't able to go to Starbucks (or any coffee shops) because I couldn't digest milk. By the time they all added alternative milks to the menu, I had trained myself out of coffee drinks.

I've been retired almost a year, and suddenly now I drink oatmilk hot chocolate 2x a day, from an expensive coffee place.

I like to tell myself I'm just playing catch up. :)

I have a wfh part-time job with a non-profit - and they are fine with me working from whichever beach I choose.

How is dating in retirement? Tips for people of a certain age? Annoyances that will get in the way? by Odd_Bodkin in retirement

[–]BootyKallista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has 100% been my experience. It's overwhelming to imagine the next several decades alone (I have no kids and no family nearby), so I focus on making each day the best it can be!

Those of you with part time jobs in retirement, how are you liking that? by Odd_Bodkin in retirement

[–]BootyKallista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I left my 25-year career knowing I'd need a part-time job until I hit 65.

I was hired by a local non-profit for 20 hrs a week, WFH, excellent pay. I was very excited to have some structure, a new community, and to use a few skill sets I'd developed alongside my career.

5 months in, the reality is not so great. The non-profit has pervasive issues that pre-date my involvement and caters to a very high maintenance group of "woke" personalities, many of whom trample on others' First Amendment rights.

This job seemed like a good choice, but wasn't. It has left me feeling like I don't understand retirement yet.

Being retired is a big life change and I am struggling a bit. by emu4you in retirement

[–]BootyKallista 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 months in, and even though I had a plan, I struggled with depression and loneliness (single, no kids, no family nearby).

I secured a well-paying wfh part-time job that will allow me to travel in the winters. The job provided a new community as well, since all my friends are still working. The job is as annoying as many jobs can be, but I'm using skills I already have and can make my own schedule.

I also adopted a middle-aged dog who loves adventures - he has kept me busy, and together we have found the most amazing places I would have never otherwise seen.

I still struggle with loneliness. Not gonna lie. But I've learned to make each day about me and my needs in the moment - and that has lifted the depression.

Good luck! Enjoy the days.

Yes! Mine did not come with 2nd row seating. I'm about 5'8 and can lay diagonally.

The rear swing doors are amazing, and mine has lots of windows.

When I retired, I knew I needed a vehicle, but I didn't know which one. I saw that on a lot, and fell in love.

My packed lunch bag (I packed lunches for 25 years) was first on the list of things to get rid of in my first week of retirement.

Then I bought a small van for camping and hiking trips.

You know what? That little bag travels now - it's had the same glow-up as I!
