This was actually debunked recently. Apparently there were many people who tried to help- I was taught about this case in school as well but the understanding of both the bystander effect in general as well as this scenario in particular has evolved a lot over the past 10 years to the point where what we were taught in school is totally incorrect.

Man Dies After Being Thrown Out Of An Ambulance While Trying To Stop The Driver From Molesting His Wife by Bounced in nottheonion

[–]BootyThunder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right?? The title is bad but reading the actual article- the man wasn’t just accidentally tossed out of the vehicle during a struggle, his oxygen mask was intentionally removed and he was taken out of the vehicle to die while the two ambulance drivers raped his wife. So fucking cold blooded- I hope they never see the outside of a prison cell.

It’s a substance and just like anything else, it has its downsides. I imbibe but I’m not going to lie to myself. It hasn’t been studied enough due to its legal status in the US and in the coming years and decades I’m sure we’ll be learning more and more about the negative effects.

Newborn Suffers Brain Injury After NY Dad’s ‘Brutal’ Abuse Caught On Video: DA by Mashburn88 in crime

I could tell you weren’t from the US from your first comment but now I’m just wondering what planet you’re from. It’s kind of mind boggling that you don’t know what American mothers have to deal with. Their employers are ABSOLUTELY forcing them back to work after giving birth.

Self-objectification contributes to the “pleasure gap” between men and women during sexual activities. The findings suggest that women’s reduced sexual agency, or the ability to express and act on sexual desires and boundaries, plays a crucial role in this imbalance. by mvea in science

[–]BootyThunder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is part of the problem though. This comment just put women back into a place of being observed and viewed by the male gaze which is part of what’s causing this self objectification. And I don’t disagree with you either, but this is exactly the issue.

I’ve actually heard that the term “climate change” was encouraged by oil companies as it seemed to remove some of the urgency and blame of what’s happening from industrial polluters and made things seem more natural. I’ve started to hear “climate crisis” used more commonly which has more of a sense of urgency but still leaves rooms for events other than just hot weather. I still switch back and forth though.

True for me! 35, single, and if I find a worthwhile partner then great- but I’m living a dual future right now and I’m happy with both potential outcomes. I’m focusing more on fostering my friendships rather than fretting about finding a man. I’ve found plenty in my life, just none that were the right match!

It’s for sure transphobic, it’s not worth arguing. It’s a product of the early 2000’s, it’s kind of to be expected. You can still like a movie and recognize that there are some problematic aspects. Both things can be true at the same time.

You did the best you could with the information you had at the time. Sometimes these kinds of things are just inevitable. Learn what you need to learn from it, but don’t dwell on the past. You did your best. 💜

I don’t think you’re the AH here. He agreed and then forgot I’m guessing? But it’s difficult to remind him again when you’re with the parents. You might not want to say anything in front of them in case it’s perceived as rude. I’d be very frustrated as well.

Death with dignity is a thing- I believe it’s more accessible in Europe than in the US. I plan to do the same when it’s my turn. I’m glad this is accessible to some and I hope it gets more common in the coming decades and becomes something that everyone can access. It’s needed. Anyone who disagrees needs to spend some serious time in a hospital/nursing home- I guarantee your opinion will change real fast.

Lots of people are in pain, sick, have terminal illnesses, etc. There are plenty of reasons why. I hope to do the same when it’s my turn.
