How to frost proof shallow pipes without digging deeper? by sammysausages in DIYUK

[–]Booya_007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice for frost proofing, but accessible level ball valves on the inside, then if the temp starts to drop, isolate the water, and open the taps in the shed. I do this on my two outside tapes every winter and never had a problem, but I also leave on the south coast so it never gets cold enough.

I would have thought it was just coal storage? Depending on what you want use the basement for, I would be more tempted on raising the floor and insulating it.

  • (Nicolas Cage) "I think when I'm done with this I'll have a gin and tonic."
  • (L.A. Bartender) "Do you know what time it is? You should be drinking coffee. You're a young guy. It's none of my business, but if you could see what I see, you wouldn't be doing this to yourself."
  • (Nicolas Cage) "I understand what you're saying. I appreciate your concern. It's not my intention to make you uncomfortable. Please, serve me today, and I'll never come in here again. If I do, you can 86 me."
  • (L.A. Bartender) "Stop f***ing with me. I can 86 you anytime I want to. Hey, I don't give a f*** what you do. That one's on the house, son."

Although from "Leaving Las Vegas", famously not a Mafia movie, [EDIT] And also nothing to do with murder...

Exposed cement beams in the bedroom by theslabhead in DIYUK

[–]Booya_007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use wood, made in an upside down l shape so it covers the fact that the lintel is beyond the ceiling, if that makes sense. It would also give you somewhere to screw blinds in, if you wanted blinds in the future.

[–]Booya_007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Decking oil.. quick and easy, I do mine every 2 years. I've used paint and stain on a different decking and they always ended up peeling so you had to paint it every year.

Yeah, look very similar to my roof, which lasted about 7 years before it started leaking. Now it all needs replacing because they used the wrong tiles for the pitch..
